Some say it\'s an important milestone pushing Egypt towards a new political era but others, notably among them the Muslim Brotherhood say the new draft constitution to be put to a referendum within months, is a step backwards especially since the new draft is seen as giving sweeping powers to the military and banning political parties based on religions. Is Egypt headed to a new era of democracy or further rallies and violent crackdowns?

Iranian Parliamentarians say that human rights has become a tool in the hands of the West to pressure other countries. Human Rights Resolution proposed by Canada against Iran was adopted on December 18th. Iranian parliamentarians talked about the resolution after they came back from vacation this week. The resolution was approved with 86 votes in favor, 36 against and 61 abstentions, expressing concern over alleged human rights violations in Iran. Iranian representatives say the move does not aim in any way to enhance rights conditions. They say human rights has been politicized and this is damaging to those who have dedicated their lives to create better living conditions for all individuals without a political motive.

Reports from Syria say Kurdish fighters have managed to recapture a key town in the country\'s north-east.
Press TV sources say the Kurdish People\'s Protection Units, known as YPG, have regained control of Tall Hamis town near the Turkish border. The Kurdish fighters retook the town following fierce fighting with the Al-Qaeda linked militants, who were heavily occupying the area. Reports say the YPG forces have also advanced in al-Husseinia village which is located near Tal Hamis. The victory is not the first for the YPG, as the group has previously taken control over several areas in the region.

A group of Afghan lawmakers oppose a possible security pact with the United States. They say the deal is against the interests of Afghan people and will cause more bloodshed. Washington is pressing Kabul to sign a security pact that allows US troops to stay in Afghanistan beyond 2014. But the two sides are still at loggerheads over several issues. Meanwhile, Afghan protesters have rallied in the eastern Kunar province to show their anger at US night-time raids and drone strikes. Protesters say the attacks only target civilians. A foreign ministry spokesman has also voiced Kabul\\\'s opposition to the strikes.

Officials in Iraq\'s Kurdistan Region say they\'re making progress with forming the new government following September\'s elections.
Kurdistan\'s main opposition party - the Change Movement - came second in the elections. The party has now agreed to join the government with the winning Kurdistan Democratic Party.
The Change Movement and the Democratic Party have enough seats to form a majority. But Kurdistan\'s Islamic parties are also trying to join the new government. It\'s unclear who will take on the role of the opposition.
The Change Movement is still discussing details of the new government with Kurdistan\'s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.
The Democratic Party\'s historical partner - the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan - will also join the new government - despite its third place finish in the elections. However, officials say that Prime Minister Barzani wants to include other parties rather than continue the duopoly between the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union.

Several leading insurers say the easing of insurance sanctions on some Iranian oil exports is likely to take months to come into effect.
The companies claim this is due to complex law and regulations in the United States and the European Union. They also say a formal change in E-U, U-K and U-S laws is needed to release insurers from existing prohibitions. A recent nuclear deal on Iran\'s nuclear energy program in Geneva allows an easing of a ban on European ship insurance companies that deal with Iran. The sanctions relief could allow Iran to transport its oil more easily to its Asian customers.

Reports say the ring-leader of the al-Qaeda-linked group, Abdullah Azzam Brigades, was a high-ranking official of Saudi Arabia\'s intelligence service.
Media reports also say that Riyadh put heavy pressure on Lebanon to extradite Majed al-Majed before his death in detention on Saturday. Meanwhile, Iran\'s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi has said that Tehran doesn\'t have much information about the death of Majed, but it knows he died under suspicious circumstances. Majed was the man behind the recent terrorist attack on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut. His group launched the attack outside the embassy on November 19, killing 23 people including an Iranian diplomat. Over a hundred 60 others were also injured. Majed is also accused of carrying out several terror attacks in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

Infighting between rival insurgent groups is raging on in Syria. Opposition sources say that foreign-backed militants have seized the headquarters of al-Qaeda-linked insurgents in the northern city of Aleppo.
The sources added that members from several insurgent groups have taken control of a children\'s hospital in Qadi Askar district that is the headquarters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Aleppo. Meanwhile, other reports from Syria say at least 20 militants have been killed in a car bomb near the northern city of Dakoush. The attack was reportedly carried out by militants from the I-S-I-L. The recent tension among militant groups fighting the Syrian government has been the deadliest since the conflict began in the war-torn country back in March 20-11.

Human rights activists have condemned a new counter-terrorism law in Saudi Arabia. They say the law allows the kingdom to prosecute as a terrorist anyone who demands reform, exposes corruption or engages in dissent.
The new law grants security services sweeping powers to track phone calls and raid homes without prior approval from a judge or even a superior. Human Rights activists say the law is aimed at keeping the kingdom\'s ruling al Saud firmly in control amid demands for democratic reforms. Saudi Arabia has adopted heavy handed tactics against pro-reform calls that have grown louder since the pro-democracy protests shook the region in 2011. Large numbers of Saudi dissidents have been put behind bars.

Officials in Iraq\'s Kurdistan Region say the central government in Baghdad is blocking wages for hundreds of thousands of Kurdish workers. Iraq\'s Kurdish Deputy Prime Minister Roj Nuri Shawais has called on Kurdish members of the Baghdad cabinet to resign if the problem continues.
Kurdistan\'s government says it\'s cutting costs and even salaries of senior officials to help pay for monthly wages of more than $700m. MPs in Baghdad say the money has been withheld because Kurdistan is starting independent oil exports via Turkey.
