Indian army has ordered the court martial of six army soldiers, including two officers, for their involvement in the killings of three youths in a fake encounter in north Kashmir\'s Kupwara district back in April 2010. The army soldiers claimed the victims were militants but it was later found out that they were just three innocent civilians. The incident sparked violent protests against the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act that gives unbridled power to army personnel in the region. More than 110 civilians were killed in protests that lasted several months back in 2010. Now, three years after the incident, rights activists are not optimistic about the outcome of the court martial proceedings. They say the court martial is just a cover-up because the accused enjoy the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. That act gives legal immunity to Indian forces in Kashmir and forbids their prosecution without the sanction from the Indian government. According to rights activists, hundreds of security personnel face charges of murder, rape, and arrest in Kashmir, but prosecution against them has been hindered due to the special powers. The army has ordered court martial proceedings against the accused army soldiers in Machil fake encounter. But it remains to be seen whether the real perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice in the near future.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says political solution is the only way to put an end to violence in Syria. Rouhani also said the international community has reached the conclusion that military intervention is not a solution to the Syrian crisis, and THAT is a good sign. He made the remarks during a meeting with the visiting UN-Arab League Special Envoy for Syria. Lakhdar Brahimi for his part said that he always defends Iran\'s participation in the Geneva 2 talks. The UN-Arab League Special Envoy for Syria said yesterday that Iran\'s participation in the Geneva talks is QUOTE natural, necessary, and fruitful. Brahimi\'s visit to Tehran is part of his Middle East tour to lobby support for the meeting. The Geneva talks has been slated for November 23rd and 24th, to find a political solution to the Syrian conflict.

UN human rights experts express serious concern about US drone attacks resulting in civilian casualties in Yemen. The UN special rapporteur on extra-judicial, summary or arbitrary executions says Yemen cannot accept violations of people\\\'s right to life. This, as the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture also says that deadly attacks on illegitimate targets amount to cruel or degrading treatment. According to the world body, 16 civilians were killed when two separate wedding processions were targeted by US drones in Yemen on December 12. The UN says the victims were mistakenly identified as al-Qaeda members. The US think tank, New America Foundation says about a hundred drone strikes have killed some 9-hundred people in Yemen since 2002.

Iranians are mourning the passing anniversary of Islam\'s prophet Mohammad -- peace be upon him--with special ceremonies. They are also marking the martyrdom anniversary of his grandson, Imam Hassan Mujtaba, the second Shia Imam. The event is being commemorated on the twenty eighth of Safar-- which is the second month in the Islamic lunar Hijri calendar. Shia Muslims hold special mourning services during the last ten days of Safar. The mourners will wrap up their commemoration ceremonies on the last day of the month which coincides with the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza, the eighth Shia Imam.
