21 Palestinians have been killed by the bullets in the last eight years and human rights groups say the munitions are being used recklessly. Jacky Rowland reports from the West Bank

Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinian youths on Saturday during a demonstration in their village, Iraq Burin. The Israeli army then issued a statement alleging its soldiers only used rubber-coated steel bullets in the village. But doctors and human rights organisations say their evidence disproves this account. And Al Jazeera has obtained pictures with the clear sound of gunfire, taken by an activist who was at the incident. With such evidence, the army will now be taking a second look at its soldiers account of events.

Scores of people have been injured as riot police in Bangladesh used tear gas and rubber bullets against opposition supporters on the third and final day of a general strike. A senior officer was seriously injured in the capital Dhaka when protesters hurled a small explosive device at a group of riot police. At least 16 people have been killed in political violence since Friday. The main opposition party led by former premier Khaleda Zia, who has close relations with military leaders, is demanding that a caretaker administration oversee an election scheduled for January. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instead proposed an all-party interim government led by her to oversee the January polls. She says previous caretaker governments have paved the way for a military coup.

If you could see the rubber that makes up a balloon on a microscopic level, you would see many long strands or chains of molecules. These long strands of molecules are called polymers, and the elasticity of these polymer chains causes rubber to stretch. Blowing up the balloon stretches these strands of polymer chains. Even before drawing the dots on the balloon, you probably noticed that the middle of the balloon stretches more than either end. You wisely chose to pierce the balloon at a point where the polymer molecules were stretched out the least. The long strands of molecules stretched around the skewer and kept the air inside the balloon from rushing out. It’s easy to accidentally tear the rubber if you use a dull skewer or forget to coat the end of the skewer with vegetable oil. When you remove the skewer, you feel the air leaking out through the holes where the polymer strands were pushed apart. Eventually the balloon deflates… but it never pops. The Israeli government denies its soldiers used live ammunition during a demonstration in the occupied West Bank on Saturday. Israeli forces raid al-Aqsa Mosque Israeli forces have stormed the holy al-Aqsa Mosque in al-Quds (Jerusalem) to disperse Palestinians protesting against Israeli aggressions. Palestinian officials say the protests started after an Israeli guard shot and killed a 32-year old Palestinian during clashes between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the Silwan neighborhood on Wednesday. The killing sparked protests in the area in which at least ten Palestinians were wounded. Israeli riot police used rubber bullet and tear gas to disperse protesters and chased off those who sought refuge at al-Aqsa mosque, Islam's third-holiest shrine. There were no immediate reports of casualties or further confrontations. Despite the resumption of direct Israeli-Palestinian talks, the Palestinian Authority says Israeli settlers have not stopped attacking Palestinians in occupied territories for even a single day. Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian Authority official in charge of monitoring settler activity in the northern, occupied West Bank, says Israeli settlers attack Palestinians and their properties on a daily basis. He says the attacks are premeditated and carefully planned. Other reports say Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farms in the West Bank city of Nablus on Tuesday and took away part of their olive crop. Witnesses say police in Bahrain have violently clashed with pro-democracy protesters during the "Day of Rage" rallies across the country. On Monday, police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at hundreds of demonstrators in Karkazan, a Shia village south of the capital, Manama, AFP reported. Security forces stepped up their presence with helicopters circling over Manama. At least 14 people were wounded in overnight and Monday clashes. Activists, inspired by revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, have dubbed Monday "the Day of Rage" to express disappointment at the political reforms of the past decade, which have failed to bring prosperity and real change. The majority Shia population in Bahrain has been complaining about inequality and oppression. The government has been clamping down on the opposition since the country's controversial general elections in August last year. Since late Sunday, Bahrain's security forces have been patrolling shopping centers and other locations to monitor people's movements amid calls by opposition groups for pro-democracy protests.

The United States is slowly turning into a 'police state' and people are being controlled more and more by police state apparatus, an American peace activist says. "We have to go through full body X-ray machines to get on flights," Cindy Sheehan told Press TV's US desk on Monday. On Tuesday morning, over a dozen SWAT -- Special Weapons and Tactics -- officers broke into a house in California and detained a man, handcuffed him, put him and his three children, aged 3, 7 and 11, in a cruiser and commenced to search his house, she said. The man was questioned for hours, all because of his ex-wife's overdue student loans. Sheehan described the incident as “oppressive.” "Of course we have seen such [incidents]. When we had a demo at the G-20, the last one was in Pittsburg, and there were more heavily armed police officers… I myself was there. I got tear gassed, I got shot at with rubber bullets, chased by the police just for exercising our freedom of speech!" "The most damning thing that shows that the United States is in the process of [a] police state is the recent passage of the USA Patriot Act which basically makes the Constitution of the United States null and void," said Sheehan. Syrian rebels are under pressure to accept the UN-backed peace plan, after Damascus rubber-stamped the deal. On Friday, a Palestinian man was assaulted by Israeli soldiers and settlers in Nablus. Dozens of Israeli staged a rally near the village of Jamma\'in in Nablus during which they chanted racist slogans and called for seizing more Palestinian land. When they were confronted by local Palestinians, Israeli soldiers attacked the Palestinians using tear gas and rubber bullets. 37 year old Ghassan Baker attempted to confront the soldiers who had entered his farm, however he was immediately dragged away and beaten by the soldiers and settlers. Ghassan Baker in the meantime was trying to tell the Israelis that he was wounded and could no longer walk due to injuries and breathing difficulties resulted from tear gas inhalation. Palestinians have staged a protest in the occupied West Bank to denounce Israel\'s settlement construction on their land. The demonstrators marched into the Maale Adumim settlement which is considered one of the largest Israeli settlements. Israeli forces were deployed to break up the protest. Press TV has learned that the troops used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the protesters. A number of demonstrators were arrested. settlement is pressing ahead with its settlement construction plans despite global condemnation.
