It was tricky for the writer to incorporate the theme of repentance (istighfar) into a children’s song - we have done our best to present a piece of this beautiful concept in a way that would affect the heart. The idea is for children to be endowed with hope in Allah from a young age, to learn to have reliance upon Allah and to recognise that making mistakes does not mean that it’s game over! While the primary audience for this video is children, there are messages in the lyrics which speak out to people of all age groups. Istighfar - or repentance - has often been seen as something gloomy and dull. It is important for us to recognise the bright and hope-giving message that encompasses the reality of it. This Du\'a is taught by Imam Sajjad (as) and is Du\'a #31 in Saheefa as ­sajjadiyyah. The du\'a is a touching plea by one who acknowledges the enormity of the sins he has committed. His hope lies only in the mercy and forgiveness of Allah. Using Qur\'anic concepts of repentance, and its acceptance, Imam teaches us how to be sincere in seeking it. The Du\'a reiterates the conditions of repentance, the physical signs present on a true repenter, and the legitimate hopes given to one who truly seeks forgiveness. Our own flaws and sins can make us feel as though we can never reach our full potential. But the concept of repentance, as taught by Islam, is actually there to give you the opposite feeling; a feeling of hope; an opportunity to rectify yourself. Let’s take a moment to reflect on how Allah has placed a world of potential within our own hands!

How are we supposed to act when we get a victory in a battle or we become successful in any situation? Are we supposed to celebrate, chant slogans on the streets, and do merrymaking? Juz 10 contains the last 35 verses of Surat al-Anfal and the first 92 verses of Surat at-Tawbah. Tawbah means “to turn to” and often refers to repentance--when one turns to God. This surah is also called Bara’ah from the first word of the chapter, meaning to disassociate. This chapter discusses the outcome for those who aggressively continued to attack Islam and Rasulullah (s). Surat at-Tawbah is the only surah in the Qur’an that does not start with Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Scholars opine it may be because Surat at-Tawbah is a continuation of Surat al-Anfal, and the basmalah at the beginning of Surat al-Anfal suffices for Surat at-Tawbah. Alternatively, it may be because it was not befitting to begin a chapter of harsh subject matter, with two names describing God’s incredible mercy. However, the contents of the verses somewhat contradict the latter opinion due to discussions of tawbah. God’s Mercy is not independent of His Justice. This chapter also mentions many of the tests that the Muslims went through subsequent to the conquest of Mecca, which should encourage introspection on our relationship with Allah (swt) and in what circumstances are we willing to obey Allah (swt). Are we only willing to submit in times of ease and convenience, or also through difficulty and inconvenience?
