[03 July 2012] Iran military power defensive not offensive - English Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps' (IRGC) has begun its military drill, the Great Prophet 7, by firing indigenously made missiles at hypothetical enemy bases. On Tuesday, IRGC's long, medium and short-range missiles targeted "simulations of the trans-regional forces' airbases" in the northern Semnan Desert. The domestically-produced missiles include Shahab (Meteor) 1, 2, 3, Khalij Fars (Persian Gulf), Tondar (Lightning), Fateh (Victor) and Zelzal (Quake) as well as Qiam (Uprising). Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast says the ongoing drill in the central sector of the country is intended to convey a message of sovereignty and full preparedness to establish security in the Persian Gulf as well as the Strait of Hormuz. Press TV has conducted an interview with Nader Mokhtari, a columnist and commentator, to further talk over the issue.

In 1947, Israelis began a process of ethnic cleansing in Palestine, which still goes on today. Sixty-five years after the first forced exodus of Palestinians from their homes, their many French supporters gathered on Nakba Day to make sure the world never forgets their suffering. Today, Israel continues to ignore international law, grab more land, build new settlements and commit further crimes against Palestinians. While many Israelis maintain that some 800,000 Palestinians left willingly, history does not support it. The truth is that, with British troops still in Palestine, a Western-armed Israeli force spent several months wiping dozens of villages off the map and executing at least 10,000 people, most of them unarmed civilians. The European Union has decided to bar all 28 member states from using any EU funds for projects in Israel\'s illegal settlements. Also beginning in 2014, all bilateral contracts must include a clause stating that East Jerusalem al-Quds, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Golan Heights are not a part of Israel. The directive will primarily affect research projects and financial grants. The declaration isn\'t a boycott of the colonies\' private sector, meaning the EU will continue to be Israel\'s number one trading partner, with some €30 billion in annual trade. But many are commending Brussels for finally introducing some accountability for the criminal theft of Palestinian land and resources. Analysts say that with the EU stuck in recession, Brussels is becoming more selective about their financial assistance for Israel.
