Myanmar \'s Rakhine state remains extremely tense after several outbreaks of violence between Buddhist and Muslim communities since 2012 that have killed scores and displaced some 140,000 people, mainly from the Rohingya minority. And it appears the bloodshed continues into the new year, even though Myanmar has opened itself to the West: Are the govt. claims of democratic reforms just window dressing? Allow international relief organizations to provide open access to the region and distribute urgently needed humanitarian aid to the victims. 3. Provide security for the Rohingya who are at the mercy of Rakhine extremist elements and the racist security forces. 4. Allow fair and balanced coverage of the situation by the mainstream media. 5. Repeal the unjust 1982 Citizenship Law that aimed to cleanse Rohingya from Arakan and Burma, and restore their full rights as Burmese citizens as it was before 1962 6. Government & International Organization should help rebuild the houses, businesses and places of worship of the Rohingyas. 7. Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman has urged the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar to take stronger action to prevent the ongoing persecution of Rohingya Muslims. The remarks come after a fresh wave of violence against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar\'s western Rakhine State has triggered a bigger influx of refugees into neighboring Malaysia. \"Myanmar has to address the problem,\" Aman told reporters at a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ministers in Brunei on Sunday.

A UN envoy says the deadly violence against a Muslim minority in Myanmar poses a serious threat to the country\\\'s economic and political reforms. The U-N special rapporteur on the human rights situation in Myanmar has warned against anti-Muslim sentiments in the Southeast Asian nation. Tomas Ojea Quintana says Myanmar\\\'s military junta needs to do more to protect the vulnerable community. He says the underlying issue of discrimination against Muslims and particularly Rohingyas remains unaddressed. Hundreds of Rohingyas have been killed in sectarian violence in the western Rakhine state since last year. The continuing violence and rights abuses have forced hundreds of thousands to flee a country that does not even accept them as legitimate citizens.

More tragedy for one of the most persecuted communities in the world. A boat full of Rohingya Muslims breaks apart in the Bay of Bengal off the western coast of Myanmar. Aid workers say so far only eight have survived and dozens more are missing. They were among at least 70 Rohingyas including women, children and babies who were on board the boat that left Myanmar for Bangladesh. The United Nation is warning about several reports of boat drowning off the coasts of Myanmar. According to the UN human rights commission, at least 15-hundred people left their homes in the restive Rakhine state last week alone. Myanmar has been plagued by sectarian tensions for years. Buddhists\' violence against Rohingya\'s community has left hundreds of Muslims dead in addition to over 250-thousand people displaced.
