[06 April 2012] Istanbul conference: Call for civil war in Syria? - Middle East Today - Presstv - English
A gathering of some 70 countries which took place in Istanbul, has declared the Syrian National Council as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. The Syrian government and the Syrian opposition inside Syria have refused the conference and have called it the conference of the "enemies of Syria." Although some reports have said that the west and some Arab states have already been arming the opposition, yet still it has not managed to bring down Assad's government, but how long can Assad hang on with the most powerful states in the world backing the rebel forces? Several Persian Gulf Arab states and the United States have pledged 100 million dollars to provide salaries and communications equipment for Syrian rebels fighting against the government.

Meanwhile, Saudi-backed Bahraini forces continued human rights violations, along with UK's John Yates threat of the use of live rounds, much more coming up shortly in this edition of the News Analysis.

[29 April 2012] US Drone War - News Analysis - Presstv - English
Some of the mainstream media in the US are reporting it as "US relaxes drone rules in Yemen." In reality, the US has approved a new authority that allows US assassination drones to fire on targets in Yemen even when their identities aren't known: it's called signature airstrikes. How could these drones, which have been described as targeted killings, not that they have hit their targets all the time, to have resulted in many civilian deaths, now fire at targets whose identities are not known? In this news analysis, we will ask our guests whether this is another way for the US to okay civilian deaths as collateral damage, and whether it is a sign to spread this to other countries in order to keep America in a perpetual state of war.

The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has urged all Iranians to be prepared to continue the fight against arrogant powers.
Speaking to a group of Iranian students, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the fight against global arrogance cannot be called off. The Leader stressed if there is no fight against arrogance, then the people won’t be true followers of the Quran. Ayatollah Khamenei made the comments in response to a question by a student who asked if the battle against arrogant powers will stop after a nuclear deal between Iran and the P-five-plus-one. The Leader also slammed the U-S as the perfect example of arrogance. Meanwhile, Ayatollah Khamenei spoke of the situation in Yemen. He strongly criticized the U-N for its silence towards Saudi Arabia’s unrelenting war on the impoverished country. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said he Security Council has issued only one resolution on Yemen in which it condemned those who are under the Saudi bombardment and not Riyadh, which bombards the Yemenis. Ayatollah Khamenei described it as one of the most disgraceful resolutions. The Leader added that Riyadh has been pounding Yemen for 100 days to take revenge against Iran over the country’s spiritual influence across the region. The Leader said the U-S officials and the quote-backward Arab governments admit to Iran’s wide spiritual presence in the region in their private talks.

The arrest warrant must be approved by a court first. Prosecutors say Samsung paid nearly 34-point-five million dollars to institutions backed by Park\'s former confidante, Choi Soon-sil, in exchange for the national pension fund\'s support for a 2015 merger of two Samsung affiliates. Samsung has acknowledged providing funds to the institutions, but has denied accusations of lobbying to push through the merger. President Park was impeached by the country’s parliament in December for corruption and abuse of power. She has rejected all allegations as lies and a set-up.

Amnesty International said the 45-day deadline given for releasing Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky expires on Monday. The rights group warned if the Nigerian government deliberately disregards the orders of its own courts, it will demonstrate a dangerous contempt of the rule of law. Amnesty also called Zakzaky’s imprisonment unlawful and said the move might be part of a larger plan by the Nigerian government to cover up the gruesome crimes committed by its forces in Zaria in December 20-15. At least 350 Shias were killed when Nigerian forces raided Zakzaky\'s house in Zaria. He and his wife have been in detention since then without charge.
