Pakistan\\\'s former president Parvez Musharraf is facing treason charges.The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to proceed against Musharraf for imposing emergency rule and detaining judges in November 2007. Under the Pakistani law, only a sitting government can initiate such proceedings. But previous government was reluctant to pursue the case fearing a possible clash with the powerful army. But the new administration has told the Supreme Court that a panel of four senior officials from the federal investigation agency will look into charges against the former military ruler.

Millions of Egyptians have taken to the streets across the country to voice their dismay with the Egyptian president on the first anniversary of his inauguration. Marches and rallies took place in several places in the capital Cairo heading to both Liberation Square and the presidential palace. Press TV\'s Karim Gamal el-Deen reports from Cairo.

President Yoweri Museveni has ordered his information minister to carry out an inquiry into the country\'s National Broadcasting Cooperation over management irregularities. There are also claims that some cabinet ministers could be involved in the scandal. According to Uganda\'s auditor general, top officials have used the national broadcaster to their advantage, despite Uganda\'s constitution ban on the body to provide service to government officials.

Time and again, the Iranians prove to be a lively pro-democracy nation. With around 72 percent voter turnout -- a figure rarely seen elsewhere - in the last presidential election, they attested to be willing to practice their right of self determination to the full. The victor, Hasan Rowhani, having won the election in a landslide victory is now the country\'s president-elect preparing to take office in August 3, 2013. In the run-up to the Election Day, campaigns were heated and passions were running high. People were brandishing posters of their favorite candidates in the streets and were actively taking part in debates and gatherings to persuade a non-voter or to dissuade a rival. The young generation as it has always been in the post-revolution Iran, were at the heart of all this. Not only were they the most vocal of supporters, they could also be seen among the campaigns\' staff and organizers.

In Egypt, university students are holding rallies in support of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and against the military. The students gathered in large crowds in universities across the country, demanding Morsi\'s reinstatement. The fresh rallies come ahead of Morsi\'s trial next week. On Monday, police clashed with pro-Morsi students outside the al-Azhar University in the capital Cairo. Morsi\'s government was overthrown in early July by the Egyptian military.

Egypt\'s political situation is out on a limb: although there is an interim government in place, it seems as if the most populous Arab country is left without an effective ruler. Democratically-elected President Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the military in July but protests for and against him continue nearly on a daily basis. The daily unrest is taking the toll on the country.

A key trial suspended just minutes after opening. An Egyptian judge has suspended the trial of the country\'s first democratically-elected president, Moahmed Morsi. The suspension reportedly came after Morsi and 14 other defendants began shouting that they didn\'t recognize the authority of the court. Mohamed Morsi, three of his aides and 11 Muslim Brotherhood members are standing trial for allegedly inciting violence which left 10 protesters dead in December. The Muslim Brotherhood has called the charges fabricated, urging its supporters to pour into the streets in protest. Security is currently tight in Egypt with some 20-thousand policemen deployed to the streets. Brotherhood\'s supporters are demonstrating in several cities and outside the venue of the trial. Reports say at least 20 pro-Morsi protesters have been arrested during clashes in the port city of Alexandria.

South Africa\\\'s anti-apartheid leader, Nelson Mandela, has been laid to rest in his ancestral home in Eastern Cape. His burial in the village of Qunu ended ten days of memorial ceremonies that also received over a hundred world leaders. Around 4500 invited guests including foreign dignitaries attended Mandela\\\'s state funeral. But the public was shut out of the interment itself, with his family insisting it be a private affair. The former South African president died on December the 5th, at the age of 95. Although Mandela had been critically ill for months, the announcement of his death came as a shock to South Africans and the rest of the world.

Egypt\\\'s ousted president Mohamed Morsi is set to stand trial again. Cairo\\\'s appeals court has set January twenty-eight as the date for the new trial. Morsi is accused of murder during the time he was freed from a Cairo prison. It goes back to the start of the popular uprising against former dictator Hosni Mubarak in 2011. About one-hundred 30 other people will also face trial along with Morsi. The former leader is already on trial for allegedly inciting the killings of opposition activists during his one year in power. He was toppled by the military in early July last year.
