ESOLUTION OF PROTEST: To Consul General of Pakistan Toronto, Canada The Shia and Sunni Canadian Muslims have gathered here today to express our extreme anguish and sorrow at the genocide of Pakistani citizens by a small group of terrorists. We, the Shias and Sunnis are united in condemning these terrorists and the shameful lack of action by the government of Pakistan which has surrendered to the foreign interests rather than performing its duty towards its citizens. 5. We demand an immediate operation in the country to hold these culprits accountable for their crimes against humanity. 6. We strongly condemn the burning of Christian houses in Lahore today by extremists. What would it take for the Pakistani government to change its shameful lack of action? How many more orphans and widows will it take before the government conducts an operation against these murderers committing war crimes against innocent Pakistani citizens? These foreign funded terrorists are unable to operate in many other nations due to a respectable, dignified and independent government, loyal to its citizens; why have the Pakistani government officials surrendered to foreign pressures? Why are they allowing their brothers and sisters and neighbors to be massacred? We, the coalition of Shia and Sunni mosques and community organizations in Toronto demand immediate action by the government to arrest and punish the perpetrators of the Abbas Town massacre and the individuals responsible for killings across Pakistan.

'No shelter for Pakistan flood victims' The International Organization for Migration (IOM) says that more than 80 percent of Pakistanis, who were rendered homeless by floods, are still left without shelter. The IOM says it only has enough funding to provide 17 percent of the victims with shelter. "We have probably reached something like 2.1 million people, that is only about 17 percent or less than a fifth of the families that actually need emergency shelter," said a senior official from the organization The organization is taking part in the UN led relief efforts in flood-stricken Pakistan. The United Nations is to launch a fresh appeal for funding later this week to help the victims of the worst natural disaster in Pakistan's history. The floods have affected more than 21 million people and left 10 million without shelter. More than eight-million people rely on aid handouts for their survival. The developments come as Pakistani authorities continue efforts to protect several towns in Dadu district near the Indus river in Sindh Province. A Press TV correspondent says more lives are at risk from waterborne diseases in flood-hit areas. The correspondent adds that millions of Pakistan flood victims are leading miserable lives in the southern city of Thatta and several other districts in Sindh Province. They have taken refuge in graveyards or under trees to protect their families from scorching heat in the outskirts of the city. Survivors have been left without food, water, shelter and other basic necessities in Pakistan as a result of last month's flooding. Asuicide bomber driving a vehicle packed with explosives rammed into a bus carrying Shia Muslim pilgrims in south-west Pakistan on Sunday, killing 19+ people, a government official and witnesses said. Earlier on Sunday, 21 tribal policemen believed to have been kidnapped by the Taliban were found shot dead in Pakistan\\\\\\\'s troubled north-west tribal region, government officials said. Pakistan has experienced a spike in killings over the past year by radical Sunni Muslims targeting Shias who they consider heretics. The violence has been especially pronounced in Baluchistan province, where the latest attack occurred. In addition to the 19 people killed in the bombing in Baluchistan\\\\\\\'s Mastung district, 25 others were wounded, many of them critically, said Tufail Ahmed, a local political official. The blast completely destroyed the bus that was hit and damaged a second bus carrying Shias that was close by. A witness who was travelling in the second bus told Pakistan\\\\\\\'s Geo TV the first bus contained over 40 pilgrims heading to neighbouring Iran, a popular religious tourism destination for Shias. A second witness said the bomber rushed by in a truck, swerved in front of the first bus and braked suddenly. The bus slammed into the truck and then a big explosion occurred. Shias make up around 15% of Pakistan\\\\\\\'s 190 million people. They are scattered around the country but the province of Baluchistan has the largest community, mainly made up of ethnic Hazaras, easily identified by their facial features which resemble those of Central Asians. The 21 tribal policemen who were shot dead were found by officials early on Sunday, in the Jabai area of Frontier Region Peshawar after being notified by one policeman who escaped, said Naveed Akbar Khan, a top political official in the area. Another policeman was found seriously wounded, said Khan. The 23 policemen went missing before dawn on Thursday, when militants armed with rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons attacked two posts in FRP. Two policemen were also killed in the attacks. Militants lined the policemen up on a cricket pitch late on Saturday night and gunned them down, said another local official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to talk to the media. Also on Sunday, two Pakistani soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in the North Waziristan tribal area, the main sanctuary for Taliban and al-Qaida militants in the country, security officials said.

A heartbreaking documentary by filmmaker and journalist Ziad Zafar on the disappeared people in Pakistan. Timely and to the point. Points to the two major factors that determine Pakistani politics - the American geo-strategic interests and the politico-economic interests of the military establishment. Important to note that religious extremism and sectarianism in Pakistan have always been the function of these two factors. The American selfish interests in the region and the failure of political process since the establishment of Pakistan are the real causes behind religious extremism. Busharrafs war on terror is failing. This war is itself a form of and a cause of growing terrorism in the region. Those individuals involved in militant organizations and terrorist activities should be brought to justice. But it should be done through given constitutional and criminal procedures instead of extra-judicial kidnappings and killings. Because illegitimate and unpopular power has its own logic. It does not distinguish between one type of body from the other - one type of citizen from another - militant or otherwise - when it comes to the question of preserving itself. The history of dictatorships in Pakistan - military or democratic - provide plenty of examples where in the name of National Integrity Development Islamization and more recently Curbing Islamic Extremism and War on Terror the state has suppressed dissent liberties and freedom of its citizens. Notice the list of missing people at the end of the documentary. Recognize the backgrounds of people through their names. Are they only what the Pakistani state likes to call the Islamic Militants. Or the list also includes the Baloch the Muhajir the Pashtoon the Sunni the Shia the Liberal the Human Rights Activist and the Journalist.

More heavy rains in Pakistan are hampering efforts to deliver aid to over 15 million people affected by the country's devastating floods. Nearly 40 people were killed and several others injured in the most recent deluge caused by torrential rains in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan, a Press TV correspondent reported. The monsoon rains, which began on July 27, caused floods and damage in different parts of the province, rendering many communities inaccessible due to destroyed roads and collapsed bridges. As the number of people affected by the flooding exceeds 15 million, Pakistan's Federal Flood Commission has warned that the Indus River was overflowing its banks in the south. The floodwaters flowing from northwestern Pakistan have already destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes. The two weeks of flooding have, so far, claimed over 1,600 lives. Meanwhile, in neighboring Indian-controlled Kashmir, floods have killed over 130 people. Authorities expect the death toll to rise as hundreds are missing and rescue workers are unable to reach affected areas.

GOP 2012 hopeful Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) thinks U.S. troops will soon be on the ground for an occupation of Pakistan — and he said so on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Wednesday morning. Paul called America’s relationship with Pakistan “an impossible situation,” where the U.S. hailed both its friendship with and suspicion of the country. “I think we are going to be in Pakistan, I think that’s going to be our next occupation, and I fear it,” Paul said. “It’s ridiculous. I think our foreign policy is such we don’t need to be doing this.” Paul said he had no inside information on Congress authorizing or ordering troops to invade Pakistan. He simply said based on U.S. history, he wouldn’t be surprised to see further U.S. involvement there.
