[11 July 2012] Saudis fear revolution will hit kingdom - English Tens of thousands of Saudi Arabian protesters have held a demonstration against the Al Saud regime in the Qatif region of oil-rich Eastern Province. The demonstrators took to the streets on Tuesday to condemn the Riyadh regime for the deadly crackdown on protests. The protesters were also condemning the detention of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nemr al-Nemr, who was attacked and arrested earlier in the day. Since February 2011, protesters have held demonstrations on an almost regular basis in Saudi Arabia, mainly in Qatif and the town of Awamiyah in Eastern Province, calling for the release of all political prisoners, freedom of expression and assembly, and an end to widespread discrimination. However, the demonstrations have turned into protests against the Al Saud regime, especially since November 2011, when Saudi security forces killed five protesters and injured many others in the province. Press TV has conducted an interview with Kamel Wazni, political analyst, to hear his opinion on this issue.

[11 July 2012] Al Saud tries to scare Sunni population - English Tens of thousands of Saudi Arabian protesters have held a demonstration against the Al Saud regime in the Qatif region of oil-rich Eastern Province. The protester chanted slogans against the Al Saud regime, calling for its downfall. The mass rally comes a few days after Saudi forces killed at least three protesters in the region. The oil-rich eastern province has been the scene of protests after the forceful detention of a prominent Shia cleric. Sheikh Nemr al-Nemr was wounded in an attack on his car and then arrested by Saudi forces. The Eastern Province has been the epicenter of anti-regime protests since last year. The protesters demand the release of political prisoners and social justice. Press TV has conducted an interview with Ali Al Ahmed, director of the Institute for [Persian] Gulf Affairs (IGA) in Washington, to further discuss the issue.

[11 July 2012] Dangerous days ahead for Egypt - English Egypt's highest court has overturned Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi's decree reinstating the North African county's parliament. The ruling of the Supreme Constitutional Court was announced on Tuesday, hours after the parliament reconvened briefly on the same day by a presidential decree, the Associated Press reported. On Sunday, Morsi issued a decree reinstating the dissolved parliament in defiance of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), which dissolved the parliament on June 16 in line with an earlier ruling by the Supreme Constitutional Court. The move to reinstate the parliament is the first showdown between Morsi and the country's powerful military. Press TV has conducted an interview with Nabil Mikhail, professor of political science at the George Washington University to further discuss the issue.

[13 July 2012] Yemeni protesters call for ouster of corrupted remnants - English Yemeni protesters took to the main streets of the capital Sanaa demanding the ouster of corrupted government officials who are still in power after months of anti-regime demonstrations. They called for an end to the deeply rooted government corruption.The protesters also called on President Mansour Hadi to take decisive measures to strip Saleh-era and corrupt officials of their positions in the new government. The Friday protest came a day after the UN Envoy to Yemen Jamal Ben Omar held a press conference in the capital Sana'a in which he discussed the mechanism of the power transition which will take place in the near future

[13 July 2012] Gangs kill Syrians to show deterioration - English Syria has announced that terrorist groups were behind the killing and wounding of tens of people in the village of al-Treimseh in the east of the country.Eye witnesses who appeared on Syrian TV said terrorists attacked, destroyed and burned scores of the houses in al-Treimseh, on the outskirts of the city of Hama, on Thursday, killing dozens of civilians, Syrian Arab News Agency reported. Damascus said the Western and some Arab media are working with the armed terrorist gangs to sway public opinion against Syria and its people by accusing the government of the killings on the eve of a UN Security Council meeting. Syria has been gripped by more than 16 months of unrest.

[13 July 2012] Is Islamic banking applicable in today economy - English After the baking crisis of 2008 and the collapse of financial markets, doubts have emerged on the capability of the modern financial model to sustain a healthy economy. With the failure of both capitalism and communism, some experts, especially in Muslim countries are looking at Islam to find an alternative model. Islam's strong prohibition of usury (Riba) in particular is seen as a new foundation for a healthy banking system and consequently a sustainable and fairer economy. Other Islamic institutions like zakat and waqf (endowments) have potential economical functions. In recent years Islamic Banking for example, has been tried with some success in some of Muslim countries and even in Britain. British Financial Services Authority estimates the assets controlled by Islamic banks at the global level to be $200-500bn which is growing at a pace of 10-15% per year. With prospect of about 12 million Muslims living in EU, Islamic financial and economical model is a feasible solution for the future. These people are marching towards the largest port of Pakistan to register their protest over the resumption of NATO supplies route. It was stopped last November because of the Salala incident in which two dozen Pakistani soldiers were killed by the US-led forces in Afghanistan.

It is clear how much they have been longing for democracy, as they are finally rejoicing fair and transparent elections. The National Forces Alliance, a secular party led by former premier Mahmoud Jibril, has garnered vote majority according to early results announced by the High National Election Commission and might consequently dominate a considerable bloc of seats in the incoming parliament. Thousands of people took part in the protest and denounced the government's move to boost US reinforcement in neighboring Afghanistan.
