BAE Systems - the UK\'s largest arms manufactures - was the first stop on what would be a fast-paced journey across Central London highlighting the capital\'s ties to the global arms trade. With scores of protestors arrested during Tuesday\'s Stop G8 demos, the police presence was a heavy one. Demonstrators from a coalition of anti-capitalists groups explained why the arms firms provoked their anger. With just days to go before the G8 Summit kicks off in Ireland the capital is the focal point. With the demonstrators taking the media and other protestors on what seemed like a magical mystery tour of locations associated with the arms trade in London.

For many taking part in the flash demonstrations, the arms trade may have been the Wednesday\'s focus but it is the G8 summit being held in the Lough Erne resort in Ireland\'s County Fermanagh for which the most anger is reserved.
The leaders of the world\'s eight most powerful countries have already begun arriving for the two-day summit. Protestors say they will be doing all they can to highlight their objections to a group they say is failing in its duty to the very people they are supposed to represent.

President Mohamed Morsi has appointed new governors for 17 provinces in the country. Seven of the new governors are members of the Muslim Brotherhood. Army and police officials are also among the new appointees. Yet, the move has sparked criticism across the country ahead of the June thirtieth anniversary of Morsi\'s taking office.
Opposition figure Amr Moussa and member of the National Salvation Front has heavily slammed the appointments saying that they further add to the tensions prior to the planned June 30th protests.

A car bomb rocked the central Mezzeh district of the Syrian capital Damascus killing and injuring a number of civilians. A three-year-old child was also among the people killed there. The explosion, which happened in the heavily populated al-Madraseh neighborhood, also caused material damage to the shops and apartments. Residents of this often-targeted neighborhood say armed men frequently attack them because they support resistance against the Israeli enemy. Elsewhere in the Rukn al-Deen neighborhood in north Damascus several bombers attacked a police station leaving several people dead, many of them the terrorists. Also, the insurgents attacked a criminal security branch in Bab Musalla in southwest Damascus. Authorities say at least 11 people died in the two attacks.

Another suicide attack rocks the Bab Sharqi neighborhood in old Damascus, killing and critically injuring a number of civilians. Police say a man smuggled the explosive device in a plastic bag and detonated it in the middle of an ancient market.
Insurgents have confirmed the number of dead, but claim the attack was caused by a mortar bomb. This while some unconfirmed reports say the bomber was wearing a suicide belt and blew himself up outside the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox church. A number of shops were also damaged in the blast, but the number of fatalities is likely to rise.

Russia\'s Leading opposition leader is sentenced to five years in prison - a punishment that is set to turn Aleksei Navalny who recently declared his candidacy for mayor of Moscow, from an opposition activist to a political dissident and prisoner. Navalny denies the charges, saying the case is politically motivated.
After the guilty verdict many took to the streets. In Moscow, even before the sentence was announced, supporters and the police began to gather at Manezh Square near the Kremlin where backers of Navalny had planned to hold an unsanctioned rally.

US attorney general Eric Holder says the number of mass shooting incidents in the country has tripled in recent years.
Holder made the remarks at the annual conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police in the US city of Chicago. He also said between 2000 and 2008, the country experienced an average of five mass shootings every year. But since then, the annual average of mass shooting incidents has tripled. Holder also said the country has witnessed at least 12 mass shootings this year. The US has one of the highest rates of gun-related crimes in the world. Reports say over 9-thousand people lost their lives in gun crimes since the deadly Newtown shooting incident back in 2012.

Bahrain\'s regime forces crack down on protesters who are mourning for a 17-year-old youth killed by government troops a day earlier.
The protesters have held a funeral for Ali Khalil al-Sabbagh in the village of Bani Jamrah, west of the capital Manama. Sabbagh was shot dead by regime forces there on Tuesday. He\'s the latest victim of the ongoing crackdown by the Al Khalifah regime on dissent. Police, however, say he died after a bomb he was holding in his hands, went off. They also claim that he was wanted for criminal offences. Bahrain has been the scene of pro-democracy rallies for more than two years now. The Al Khalifah is responding with heavy-handed tactics which have led to scores of deaths and thousands of detentions.

In Bahrain, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held a demonstration to show solidarity with a detained journalist.
The protesters called for the release of freelance journalist and photographer Hussain Hubail who was arrested in August on charges of campaigning through social networks and attending unauthorized protests. The Friday\'s protests also called for political reforms and a democratic transition. The opposition said, in a statement at the end of the rally, that the era of authoritarianism, tyranny and monopolizing power has come to an end. Bahraini police clashed with the protesters after the rally west of the capital Manama. The call for the release of political prisoners comes as Amnesty International has condemned the imprisonment of activists in Bahrain, describing the move as appalling. The tiny Persian Gulf kingdom has been gripped by protests calling for the downfall of the Al Khalifah since February 2011.

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria have reportedly massacred at least 30 civilians in Idlib province.
The killings took place as members of an al-Qaeda-linked group-- known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-- fired a series of mortar shells on Kafteen village. The insurgents in a separate incident also fired mortar shells on a town in Hasakah province. The attack primarily targeted a police station and led to the injury of a number of civilians. Locals say they\'ve seen some people vomiting after the shelling-- in what could be a sign of a chemical attack.

The demonstrators marched in the capital Manama as well as the town of Adliyah and Muqabah. Regime forces used tear gas against protesters in Moqabeh. Protesters expressed solidarity with al-Wefaq leader Sheikh Ali Salman and pledged to continue their protests. Al-Wefaq has said the summoning is part of the regime\'s blackmail and revenge campaign against the peaceful opposition. Manama is under fire for a heavy-handed crackdown on dissent.

A woman was among the dead in the attacks in Nuristan province. Two other civilians including a child were also injured. Officials say the victims had no links to militants. Earlier in the day, a U-S drone strike killed two people in eastern Kunar province. Police say those killed were Taliban members. However in many other similar cases, civilians were found to be the main victims. Civilian killings at the hands of foreign forces have been a source of friction between Kabul and Washington since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

The death toll in Latvia\'s worst disaster in decades is rising. It has been announced that at least 51 people died when the roof of a supermarket collapsed on shoppers in the capital, Riga.
Rescuers are still pulling bodies from the rubble as hopes of finding more survivors are dwindling over 24 hours since the incident occurred. The roof of the Maxima supermarket collapsed late on Thursday when it was full of shoppers. The cause of the deadly tragedy has not been determined yet, although the police have opened a criminal investigation focusing on the construction of the building. The Latvian government has declared three days of mourning starting on Saturday and will hold a national moment of silence on Monday.

Human rights groups in Egypt have condemned a new law on protests, saying it will restrict the right to peaceful assembly.
Based on the new law, which was signed by the interim President Adly Mansour, protesters will have to receive permission from police in advance before staging any protests. The new law comes only days after the interim government allowed security forces to enter university campuses without prior permission. Meanwhile, Egyptian students have once again taken to the streets in the capital Cairo to demand an end to the military rule. Demonstrators were marking 100 days since security forces broke up sit-ins calling for ousted president Mohamed Morsi\'s reinstatement. The ensuing violence left hundreds dead. Tensions in Egypt have been running high since Morsi was ousted by the military in early July.

These are activists from Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf or Justice Party which is now governing the country\'s northwestern province bordering with Afghanistan. For several days, the provincial government has blocked land routes for trucks carrying war supplies for US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan.
The provincial government has avoided using police force to block the supply lines in order to prevent legal action because defense and foreign policies are the exclusive domains of the federal government.
Legally speaking the federal government in Islamabad can dismiss the provincial government in northwestern region for overstepping its authority to block the NATO supply line. But given the fact that the anti-US sentiment is rising alarmingly, the federal government is hard pressed to decide on a clear policy action that goes beyond routinely condemning U-S drone attacks.
The country\'s Interior Minister Chaudhar Nisar Khan says that it is time for Pakistan to choose between US economic assistance or self respect. The federal government is engaged in consultation process with major political parties to evolve consensus on how to bring an end to the US drone attacks that has effectively derailed the peace process with the pro-Taliban militants.
