[06 Aug 2012] Panetta raises threat of military attack on Iran Galloway - English US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has raised the threat of a military attack on Iran regarding its nuclear energy program in an effort to reassure what they call Israel during a trip to Tel Aviv. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems to dismiss the tough talk though, saying American statements of solidarity with Israel and hints at military attacks are not working. Iran however has denied the Western accusations that Tehran is seeking a military objective in its nuclear energy program. According to a Fatwa from the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei Iran is prohibited to follow such an objective. Russian President Vladimir Putin was in London on Thursday to discuss the Syrian issue with David Cameron. So far, Russia and China have opposed any kind of UN resolution that could be seen as supporting Libyan-style Western military intervention. "Britain has retaliated in part by blocking a Russian arm shipment to Syria but the weaponry keeps getting through at least to those favored by the West," said George Galloway.

[15 Aug 2012] Afghanistan war ending in US failure - English He made the comments one day after an Afghan policeman opened fire on US-led forces in the eastern province of Nangarhar, injuring two soldiers. Last week, seven US-led soldiers were killed over four days when Afghan security forces opened fired on them in another green-on-blue or insider attack, in which Afghans turn their weapons against their foreign allies. According to a NATO count, such attacks have killed a total of 37 US-led foreign soldiers this year, up from 35 deaths in 2011. Press TV has conducted an interview with Conn Hallinan, a columnist for Foreign Policy in Focus, to further discuss the issue.

A federal judge in the United States has ruled that the spying activities of the government on the country\\\'s citizens are legal. New York District Judge William Pauley made the ruling in response to a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union against the National Security Agency. Judge Pauley says the NSA\\\'s phone tapping activities are valuable tools to counter what he called threats of terrorism. He also said the mass collection of phone data increases the agency\\\'s capabilities to protect US citizens. The comments come just a week after another federal judge ruled that the surveillance was unconstitutional. Washington DC federal judge Richard Leon said the phone-tapping program violates the Constitution\\\'s ban on unreasonable search.
