Syrian armed gangs kidnap Lebanese pilgrims

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria have kidnapped 12 nuns from a convent in the Christian town of Ma\'lula. Local authorities say the insurgents have taken the nuns to the nearby town of Yabrud. There is no word on the fate of the nuns, but militants are usually known to kill people they kidnap. The insurgents have entered Ma\'lula several months after they were pushed out of the historic town. The Syrian army has been battling the insurgents in the regions near the capital Damascus. The army has cleared many towns and villages of the insurgents. Sources close to the militants have admitted that government forces have been making significant gains near Damascus and elsewhere in the country.

Reports coming out of Syria say al-Qaeda-linked militants have kidnapped about 120 Kurdish civilians from a village in the northern province of Aleppo, near the border with Turkey. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Takfiri militants from a group called the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant entered the village of Ihras, seized the people, and then took the hostages to an unknown location. Sources in Syria say several of the hostages are women. Over the past few months, there have been a number of armed clashes between al-Qaeda insurgents and Kurdish fighters in northern Syria.

Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Stoeker visited Iranian diplomat Jalal Sharafi in a hospital in Tehran on Tuesday and witnessed in person the traces of severe physical tortures on his body from head to toe. Sharafi - the second secretary of the Iranian embassy in Baghdad - was abducted in southeastern Baghdad on February 4 by a group connected to the Iraqi Defense Ministry which operates under the supervision of the U.S. forces in Iraq. He was released on April 3. In the hospital where Sharafi was also visited by Iraq ambassador to Tehran -Mohamed Majid Al-Sheikh- Stoeker observed holes drilled in Sharafis feet fractures of the nose and neck - some deep bruises on his back - and evidence of a tear to his ear drum and bleeding in the alimentary canal. Sharafi told the Red Cross representative that he had undergone horrific torturing during the first 15 days of his arrest. He was later transferred by an ambulance on a wheelchair to the Foreign Ministry building to attend a news conference with the domestic and foreign reporters and photographers.He told the reporters that during his captivity - he was repeatedly tortured and interrogated about Irans role in Iraq. He said his kidnappers - who spoke in English and Arabic - were in constant contact with their chiefs through walkie-talkies while abducted him in southeastern Baghdad. In the first four or five days an eight-person group regularly beat me up day and night with a wire. He said he was asked - why Iran helps Islamic groups in Iraq and what those groups are. Why Iran supports the Maliki government and the Iraqi people. Are there any secret relations between them... Why do you help the Sunni scholars - and asked some questions about the detained Iranian diplomats in Arbil -northern Iraq- the relations between Iraqi Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani and Iraqi president Jalal Talabani with Iran and in Iran which persons purchase uranium.... He added -At the last stage of my interrogation somebody who introduced himself as an American and a mediator between the U.S. embassy and the person in charge of my case came to me and since I could not understand English the words were translated into Arabic.Mr. Stoeker said his organization had been unable to find him in Iraq.

Jundullah leader Abdulmalik Rigi received $100,000 from US operatives to fuel sectarianism in Iran in just one of their meetings, his brother has said. "My brother Abdulmalik met several times with US forces in Pakistan," Abdulhamid Rigi told a group of tribal leaders and citizens in the town of Iranshahr in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan. "I myself took part in one of those meetings, where we discussed recruitment, training, infiltrating Iran and methods of inflaming Sunni-Shia sectarianism for three hours. In that meeting, the Americans gave my brother $100,000," he added. Abdulhamid also said that during the meeting in question, his brother had asked for computer and satellite equipment, which he used to recruit young Sunni Baluchies. According to Jundullah's former number two, young men were attracted to the group because it sought to portray itself as an Islamic and Jihadist movement. He said that the group promoted the idea that killing two people from the Shia community would ensure entry to Paradise as they are infidels. Abdulhamid said that he had shot his wife dead in the Pakistani city of Quetta while she was asleep, because his brother had said she must die for being a Shia and a government spy. He added that Abdulmalik too had previously killed his own wife by slitting her throat for the same reason. Abdulhamid Rigi had earlier confirmed that the ring leader had repeatedly met with US agents in the Pakistani cities of Islamabad and Karachi since 2005. "In Pakistan, Malik [Abdulmalik Rigi] contacted an individual who resided in the US, who then put him through to the FBI," he said in a recent interview with Press TV. Jundullah (meaning 'God's Army') is a Pakistan-based terrorist group closely affiliated with the notorious al-Qaeda organization and is made up of disgruntled members of Iran's Sunni Baluch community. A 2007 Sunday Telegraph report revealed that the CIA had created Jundullah to achieve 'regime change in Iran'. The report said it was the very same US intelligence outfit that had tried to destabilize Iran by 'supplying arms-length support' and 'money and weapons' to Jundullah. Another report posted by ABC also revealed that the US officials had ordered Jundullah to 'stage deadly guerrilla raids inside the Islamic Republic, kidnap Iranian officials and execute them on camera', all as part of a 'programmatic objective to overthrow the Iranian government'. Jundullah has carried out a number of bombings and other violent attacks in Iran resulting in many casualties. Some of the attacks for which it has claimed responsibility are the killings of at least 16 Iranian police officers in a 2008 attack, nine Iranian security guards in 2005, and another 11 in a 2007 bombing. The group's leader Abdulmalik Rigi has also publicly claimed responsibility for a bombing in May at a Shia mosque in the southeastern city of Zahedan, which left 25 worshipers dead and scores injured. Soon after the attack, Abdulmalik Rigi admitted during an interview with a US-based satellite TV station that his group collaborated with another anti-Iranian terrorist group, the Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO). "They (MKO) inform us about the regime's activities in our areas of operations and let us know of the regime's forces in these districts and send us most of the intelligence of our interest by email and messages," Rigi told the station. MKO is listed as a terrorist organization by the US, Iran, and Iraq. Nevertheless, the US government has still not classified Jundullah as a proscribed terrorist organization.

However, in the latest audio message obtained by Iran's intelligence sources, Amiri insists that he was offered $10 million to appear on CNN and announce that he had willingly defected to the US. Holding the US accountable for Amiri's abduction, the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Swiss charge d'affaires, whose embassy represents US interests in Iran, earlier this month and handed over new documents related to the abduction of the Iranian national by the CIA. Analysts say US intelligence officials decided to free Amiri after they failed to advance their propaganda campaign against Iran's nuclear program via fabricating interviews with the Iranian national.

Sayyed Nasrallah Appeals for Calm: High Level Contacts to Free Kidnapped Men Batoul Wehbe Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said Hezbollah and Amal movement are following the kidnapping of the Lebanese men in Aleppo very seriously, calling on people not to cut off roads or exercise any violence because it does not serve the issue. Sayyed Nasrallah was speaking in the name of Amal Movement leader Nabih Berri and the leaderships of Hezbollah and Amal movement who are working on the highest levels to secure their release. A group of Syrian militants abducted a number of Lebanese visitors who were on their way back from Iran where they visited the holy sites there. His eminence while condemning the act appealed for calm among people. "We want cooperation from people and we call them not to cut roads or burn tyres," Sayyed Nasrallah said, adding that he fears foreigners may cause problems with the army and other groups and take the country into the unknown. In response to some people who threatened to kidnap Syrian nationals in Lebanon, Sayyed Nasrallah said that this act of revenge is forbidden and that the Syrian nationals are "our brothers, and nobody should make such unacceptable act personally." Sayyed Nasrallah called on the Lebanese government to shoulder its responsibility concerning this case and make every necessary effort to secure the release of the Lebanese men. This documentary is about the Iranian fishermen who were kidnapped by Saudi government agents while fishing off the coat of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Following their kidnap and with no information given to anyone about their health or condition, they were convicted - without a lawyer present or anyone who could at least give them information on the allegations against them - to death by execution by the Saudi officials. The crime they were alleged to have been guilty to was drug trafficking into Saudi. A crime that they vehemently deny and the living conditions of their families provides that they could not have been drug traffickers. Subsequently, a number of then were executed in public execution ceremonies by the Saudi officials, and a number of them still await execution. The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has worked tirelessly to try and get information and to secure the release of these innocent fishermen, but the Saudi government and it's officials are not from those who keep their word. Prior to the execution, Saudi Foreign Minister had given his word to the Iranian Foreign ministry that the Iranian fishermen would not be executed. Yet within a very short time from him giving his word, the news of the executions by the Saudi officials came through. This documentary looks at their case, and looks at the impact their imprisonment and in some cases cold blooded state sponsored murder has had on their families and loved ones. Syria\'s grand Mufti says Turkey is behind the abduction of two Orthodox bishops of the city of Aleppo. Sheikh Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun says the two bishops are alive and being held in Turkey. He says Chechen militants colluded with Turkish special services to kidnap them. Metropolitan Paul of Aleppo and Metropolitan Gregory of the Siro-Jacobite Church were abducted near the Turkish border in April. Rumors circulated that both of them were killed, however the rumors were later denied. The metropolitans were said to be working on resolving humanitarian problems in the northern village of Kafr Dael when they were abducted. The Syrian cleric believes their abduction could be linked to Ankara\'s requests for the transfer of the seat of the Antioch patriarchate from Syria to Turkey.

An Iranian diplomat, shot by gunmen in the Yemeni capital Sana\'a, has died of his wounds. Members of a terrorist group first tried to kidnap Iran\'s commercial attaché but when they faced resistance, they opened fire on him. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian says the diplomat died in hospital. The foreign ministry has strongly condemned the terrorist attack. According to Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, Yemeni authorities are investigating the incident.

Iran\'s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the assassination of one of its diplomats in Yemen as an inhuman and terrorist act. The ministry has said in a statement that the murder of Abol-Qassem Assadi further revealed the violent and extremist nature of Takfiri militants. Iran has summoned the Yemeni chargé d\'affaires to protest the killing. It has promised to pursue the case and bring the perpetrators to justice. Assadi who was shot by gunmen in Sana\'a died of his wounds on Saturday.
