Saudi media outlets have reported that the country\'s interior minister, Mohammed bin Nayef, will take over the intelligence chief post following his return from a trip to the US. Saudi media outlets, citing Western security sources, say Mohammed bin Nayef will succeed Bandar bin Sultan as the intelligence chief. Nayef will also take over a number of external security affairs which have no relation with the intelligence department of the Interior Ministry. Bandar bin Sultan is accused of masterminding the terrorist networks that train and finance terrorists in Syria and some other countries in the region. Political analysts believe that the new appointment is being made to enhance the influence of Nayef in the government, especially in the area of ties with the US.

In Egypt, officials say voters have overwhelmingly approved a constitution which was drafted by the military-installed government and boycotted by the opposition. The Interior Ministry says based on preliminary results 95-percent of participants approved the draft. The government says the turnout may exceed fifty-five percent. The result could pave the way for the army chief to announce his candidacy for president. The two-day referendum which ended on Wednesday evening was marred by violent clashes between security forces and protesters. At least eleven people were killed. Nearly 450 people, mostly Muslim Brotherhood supporters were also arrested in the past two days.

Iran\\\'s Interior Ministry has hosted the first meeting of the Central Executive Board of the country\\\'s upcoming presidential election. The Thursday meeting was attended by members of the election board and chaired by Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar in the Iranian capital city, Tehran. The meeting came after the Guardian Council (GC) (Iran\\\\\\\'s top election supervisory body) spokesman Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei said on Wednesday that the GC has approved 30 people as members of the Central Executive Board. The board comprises the interior minister, intelligence minister, attorney-general, a lawmaker, and a number of religious, political, cultural and social figures. Based on the amendments made by Iran\\\'s Majlis to the election law last year, the Interior Ministry is tasked with holding the presidential election under the supervision of the Central Executive Board. More than 20 presidential hopefuls have so far declared their presidential bids. Iran\\\'s 11th presidential election will be held on June 14. Presidential hopefuls can register from May 7 to 11. The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.

Yemen\'s interior ministry says at least five people have been killed in the latest US drone strikes hitting the country\'s south. Yemeni officials say the drone strikes targeted suspected al-Qaeda militants in Abyan province on Thursday. The US has carried out dozens of such strikes in the Arab nation over the past year, killing dozens of people. Washington claims the attacks target militants, but evidence on the ground shows many of the victims have been civilians. Yemenis have staged numerous protests to condemn the deadly drone strikes.

Pakistan\'s interior minister says the government plans to put former military ruler Parviz Musharraf on trial for treason. Musharraf would be the first military ruler tried for treason in a country that has experienced three military coups in its 66-year history. He could face the death penalty if convicted of treason for declaring a state of emergency while in power. Musharraf has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Musharraf was forced to step down in 2008 after ruling for about a decade and left the country shortly afterwards. He returned to Pakistan in March to run in the national elections in May, but was disqualified. Musharraf had been held under house arrest for months and was freed earlier this month after he received bail in four other cases, including the investigation of the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The Israeli interior minister says a settlement in the strategic Jordan Valley must not be given to Palestinians. Gideon Saar said the settlement along the Jordanian border must belong to Israel forever. The area is a main focus of a new round of talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel. This, as US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Israel to mediate the so-called peace negotiations. The top US diplomat had given both sides a nine-month deadline to reach a deal, but they\'re now four months into the deadline, with little progress. Meanwhile, people of the Gaza city have held a rally against the resumption of the direct talks. The Palestinians have slammed Tel Aviv\'s settlement constructions as one of the main obstacles to peace.

Tens of millions of Iranians have crowded to the polls to take part in the election in which the incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad seeks a second term in office while facing a strong challenge from former prime minister Mir-Hossein Moussavi. After weeks of intense campaigns, turnout appears to be extraordinarily high, with polling stations packed all day. Interior Minister Sadeq Mahsouli said that the turnout would be above 70 percent -- a new record. Kamran Daneshjoo, the head of the country's electoral committee, had earlier promised to put in place a strategy to ensure "maximum participation" from the 46.2 million eligible -- aged 18 and above -- voters. Two-time parliament Speaker Mehdi Karroubi (1989-1992 and 2000-2004) and Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei are also battling for office in the crucial election. If no candidate gets absolute majority of votes in the first round, the two front-runners will face a run-off vote on June 19

An aide to defeated presidential candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi says that the post-election rioters are "not supporters of, or linked to Mousavi or his camp." Mahmoud Rabi'ee, Mousavi's campaign adviser in the Golestan Province, denounced the recent unrest which led to vandalism, arson and clashes with the riot police throughout Iran. Mousavi, who according to the Interior Ministry has lost to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad even in the East-Azerbaijan province where he hails from, cried foul and described the election as a 'charade' - an allegation denied by the president and his interior minister, who was in charge of holding the election. "We are supporting Mousavi to continue the path of [the late leader of the Islamic Revolution] Imam Khomeini and those who lost their lives and made sacrifices for the Islamic Republic," Rabi'ee said on Wednesday. "We have objections to the election results, but we show our objections by the means of silence," he added. The election results, which marked a landslide victory for the incumbent president, caused mass rallies by hundreds of thousands of Mousavi's supporters. On occasions the rallies turned violent and resulted in casualties. Eight people have so far been confirmed dead in the ensuing clashes between the police and the protesters. Many others have been injured in the unrest. Rabi'ee added that a number of 'miscreants' are attempting to de-fame Mousavi and his supporters "by conducting acts of vandalism in our name." The Mousavi camp seeks to pursue its complaints regarding 'electoral irregularities' through legal means and has pleaded the authorities to provide for the peaceful proceeding of the reported 'violations'

He made the remark during a speech after signing up for the June 14 presidential race at the Interior Ministry on Tuesday. Iran presidential hopeful, Kamran Baqeri Lankarani, has called on Iranians to turn out massively in the June 14 presidential election. He made the remark in an interview after signing up to run for president at the Interior Ministry in Tehran on Tuesday. The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election, and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.

The eleventh round of Iran\'s Presidential Election has just officially begun with the registration process finally underway as of today May 7th in the interior ministry. Any Iranian national has until May 11 to register, the date on which all the guesswork surrounding who will and who won\'t decide to run, officially comes to an end and the vetting process by the 12-member guardian council made-up of 6 Islamic faqihs or experts in Islamic jurisprudence and 6 jurists begins with a 24 hour break in between. The contenders themselves can also choose to withdraw anytime from now until the Election Day (June 14, 2013). In Egypt, a video has gone viral showing an ex-army officer carrying out a car bomb attack last month. The botched attack was said to have targeted the interior minister. The video was posted online on Saturday by an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, which claims to have also carried out other attacks on the volatile Sinai Peninsula. The video shows a man in army uniform with a rank of a major. Egypt\'s Interior Ministry had confirmed that a former officer was behind the assassination attempt. The ex-officer was sacked from the military more than 10 years ago because of his extremist ideas. He then went to Afghanistan and joined militant groups in Iraq and Syria.

Discussing the status of Afghan refugees in Iran; The UN High commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, who is on a two-day official visit to Tehran, in a meeting with Iran\'s interior minister said that the best solution to the issue of Afghan refugees is to prepare the ground for their return to their homeland.
