A territorial dispute between China and Japan seems to be far from over. In the latest development, Beijing has sent four coastguard vessels to the disputed islands in the East China Sea. The move follows Beijing\'s mention of war after Tokyo approved a plan to shoot down Chinese drones if they fly over Japan\'s airspace. China has threatened to take firm countermeasures, if Japan fires on its drones. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has accused China of trying to change the status quo in the region by force, adding that\'s why Tokyo is expected to take a leadership role over regional security issues. The relations between the two Asian powerhouses have been strained particularly over a group of disputed islands-- known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. US Secretary of State, John Kerry has visited Egypt in his first trip to country since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi. The US government had suspended millions of dollars of aid to the Egyptian government in response to Morsi\\\'s ouster by the military. However, during a press conference held by Kerry and the Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, Kerry said the suspension of aid was not a punishment but a legal requirement by American law in case of the removal of a democratically-elected president by force.

Pakistan\'s prime minister says US drone attacks violate his country\'s sovereignty, international laws and Islamabad\'s efforts to bring peace and stability to the region. In his first public comments since the US killing of a pro-Taliban leader, Nawaz Sharif warned that peace can not be achieved by unleashing quote senseless force. He made the remarks ahead of a cabinet meeting to deliberate an appropriate response to the killing of Hakimullah Mehsud. Friday\'s deadly drone strike happened as Islamabad was working to hold peace talks with pro-Taliban militants in Pakistan. There are now fears that his killing could jeopardize the talks.

Iran\'s President Hassan Rouhani has warned that excessive demands could hamper talks on Iran\'s nuclear energy program. On his twitter page, Rouhani referred to his phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rouhani told Putin that excessive demands could complicate the process toward a win-win agreement. The Iranian president praised Moscow\'s efforts to help negotiate a settlement to the issue. According to the Kremlin, Putin told Rouhani that there\'s a QUOTE real chance to resolve the international standoff over Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Representatives from Iran and the five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany will sit down for fresh talks in Geneva this coming Wednesday. The meeting will be held under pressure from Israel which seems determined to force Western countries to block a nuclear deal with Iran. The previous round of talks ended without an agreement after France, blocked a deal under the influence of Israel.

US President Barack Obama calls on Senate to delay imposing new sanctions on Iran, rejecting criticism by senators that Washington has not been tough on Iran. White House spokesman Jay Carney says that Obama has met top Democrats and Republicans from the Senate Armed Services, Intelligence and Foreign Relations committees and urged them to delay any decision on new Iran sanctions. As Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are slated to hold fresh round of nuclear talks in Geneva on Wednesday, Obama tell the senators that new sanctions should not be enacted during the current negotiations. Meanwhile, a group of senators wrote to Secretary of State John Kerry, calling on the administration to make a tougher line on anti-Iran sanctions. The senators warned that easing the sanctions would not force Iran to abandon its pursuit of an alleged nuclear weapon. Obama says the proposed deal would permit a modest lifting of the economic sanctions on Iran.

The Somali fighter group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for twin bombings that rocked the central Somali town of Beledweyne on Tuesday. At least 20 people were killed and many more injured in those attacks. The blasts targeted the central police station that serves as a base for the Somali police force. Those forces receive training from Djiboutian troops who are part of the African Union Mission to Somalia.

These are activists from Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf or Justice Party which is now governing the country\'s northwestern province bordering with Afghanistan. For several days, the provincial government has blocked land routes for trucks carrying war supplies for US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan. But given the fact that the anti-US sentiment is rising alarmingly, the federal government is hard pressed to decide on a clear policy action that goes beyond routinely condemning U-S drone attacks. The country\'s Interior Minister Chaudhar Nisar Khan says that it is time for Pakistan to choose between US economic assistance or self respect. The federal government is engaged in consultation process with major political parties to evolve consensus on how to bring an end to the US drone attacks that has effectively derailed the peace process with the pro-Taliban militants.

Syrian soldiers have discovered explosive devices and ammunition left behind by militants in the western farms of Qara in the Damascus countryside. The army managed to seize the town and force militants out after fierce clashes earlier this month. Army units continue to make gains against foreign-backed insurgents in different parts of the country. In its latest drive, the army has made fresh advances in the suburbs of the strategic cities of Aleppo and Idlib. Fighting is also raging on between Syrian forces and militants in Ma\'lula, north of Damascus and the nearby Qalamun region.

In the US prison at Guantanamo, despite various calls for a halt to humiliating and degrading treatment of inmates, such acts continue. In the latest development, US appeals court judges are questioning the need for genital searches of prisoners before meeting their lawyers. At a hearing of a three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Judge Thomas Griffith said that checking the prisoners\' private parts was both provocative and offensive. Griffith then cited the detainees\' right to have easy access to their lawyers as a legal obligation of the court. Some of the prisoners have decided not to meet their lawyers because genital searches were required beforehand. Meanwhile, another US appeals court is reviewing whether it is necessary to force-feed hunger-striking prisoners, an act which some people describe as torture.

A senior Russian lawmaker says US attempts to influence the situation in Ukraine are a desire to take revenge for Washington\'s defeat in Syria. Alexei Pushkov says US interference in Ukraine is to show that the West is still the force that determines the course of events in global affairs. He emphasized that the West\'s meddling in the events in Ukraine suggests that the country is treated as a semi-colony. Pushkov also says the direct involvement of the EU and the US in Ukraine is a new form of political aggression. Ukraine has been hit with a wave of political unrest since late November when President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign a trade pact with the European Union.

An Israeli soldier has been killed in clashes with the Lebanese army in the Ras al-Naqoura area. The incident happened after the Israeli soldier tried to infiltrate into Lebanon. Israeli military has also confirmed that one of its forces has been killed along the border with Lebanon. Reports say Israeli warplanes are flying over the region and have violated the Lebanese airspace. A spokesman for the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon has told Press TV that they are trying to find out the facts over the incident. Andrea Tenenti says UNIFIL has urged both sides to show restraint.

China has warned the United States to be cautious in its words and actions with regard to territorial disputes involving China and its neighbors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry warning comes amid a diplomatic wrangle over Beijing\\\'s newly announced air defense zone in the East China Sea. Before this, Washington had warned Beijing against imposing an air defense zone over both the South China Sea and East China Sea. US State Secretary John Kerry said recently that Washington would help its regional allies in protecting their territorial waters. China and its neighbors lay similar claims to parts of the strategic and resource-rich seas. The development comes days after Chinese fighter jets chased the US and Japanese military aircraft inside China\\\'s newly declared Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea. Chinese defense authorities say they have sent more fighter jets to the zone. The Chinese air force described the mission as a defensive measure in line with international law. China says foreign aircraft passing through the airspace, including passenger planes, will have to identify themselves to Chinese authorities. The zone includes the skies over islands at the heart of a territorial dispute between Japan and China. China is also locked in territorial rows with the Philippines over wide swathes of the South China Sea and has said it might set up a similar zone there. Senior Chinese officials have repeatedly called on Washington not to take sides over the issue.

U-S President Barack Obama has told Congress his country should not impose new sanctions on Iran if it is serious in negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear energy program. Obama-- who has been speaking to reporters in his last press briefing of the year-- has refreshed his warnings that any new sanctions against Iran could derail the current diplomatic efforts to resolve the differences with Iran. Obama says he understands why some U-S lawmakers want to \\\"look tough\\\" on Iran. But he says the U-S must give diplomacy a chance. Obama has further repeated threats that the U-S keeps all options on the table regarding Iran if it fails to comply to the terms of the nuclear deal that Tehran signed with the permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany last month. Obama says any alternative to the path of diplomacy toward Iran would have unintended consequences for the US. And he added that it would be in the interests of the American people to resolve the Iran issue diplomatically. Obama\\\'s remarks come a day after Congress put a bill on the floor to slap new sanctions on Iran if it breaches the terms of the nuclear deal reached in Geneva last month. The new sanctions would also force the U-S administration to support Israel militarily, diplomatically, and economically in the event Tel Aviv decided to launch an attack on Iran\\\'s nuclear sites.

The UN said an attack by armed men on its compound in Jonglei state left two Indian peacekeepers dead on Thursday. The targets of the attack were said to be members of President Salva Kiir\\\'s tribe who had sought refuge in the UN compound. The violence began on Sunday in the capital Juba following a failed coup and has since spread rapidly across the country. The president has accused former vice president Riek Machar of attempting to seize power by force. Lebanon\\\'s Army commander has warned that the military will respond to any Israeli aggression. A Bahraini court has sentenced five protesters to 15 years in prison with two of the defendants in absentia. In Iraq, 44 members of parliament announce their resignation after security forces dismantle an anti-government protest camp. The lawmakers are demanding the withdrawal of the army. Earlier in the day, clashes broke out between gunmen and police in the central city of Ramadi where the camp was located. Three policemen and ten gunmen were killed. The violence also spread to the nearby city of Fallujah. The lawmakers are also calling for the release of detained MP Ahmed al-Alwani who backs the anti-government protesters. On Saturday, security forces raided Alwani\\\'s home. Deadly clashes broke out after his guards opened fire on the police. Seven people -- including the MP\\\'s brother, five guards and a security force member - were killed before Alwani was taken into custody.

Saudi Arabia\\\'s Lebanese allies in the March 14 movement appeared to confirm this view, with members of the movement describing this declaration as a blow to Hezbollah. Meanwhile, the designated supplier of the military aid, France, is believed to be the main force behind the recent E-U decision to blacklist the military wing of Hezbollah. Saudi Arabia is eager to escalate its campaign against Hezbollah, perhaps showing Washington that it can seek support elsewhere. France meanwhile welcomes the 3 billion dollar package, as it\\\'s trying to find ways to boost its austerity-hit economy. Now the main question is whether the deal could possibly change the Lebanese\\\'s anti-Israeli doctrine into an anti-Hezbollah stance?
