Gisoo Misha Ahmadi, Press TV, Tehran c Iranians are becoming more aware and turning towards renewable energy sources. They're also trying to find ways to reduce energy consumption. The solar water heating systems on display at the 3rd international energy saving exhibition in Tehran are the first the draw the visitors who may not just be big fans green technology but simply more concerned about their gas and electricity bills. Now that energy subsidies have been eliminated and gas prices are high people are turning to other sources of energy. Solar water heaters can help reduce their energy consumption by 70 percent. Ever since the government has introduced its policies to change energy consumption pattern more and more people have been considering sources other than fossil fuels. The effect can be seen on this annual exhibition. More than 80 companies have taken part including more than 10 foreign companies from China, Germany, Turkey and France. Even wind turbines have found their way to the exhibition. Iran is the 16th producer of electricity in the world and is working to achieve sustainable development in the field of renewable energy. Iran is now producing 2100 Mega Watts of electricity from renewable sources. The target set for 2025 is 12000 Mega Watts which is 10 percent of the annual production. Meanwhile figures show that Iranians are becoming energy aware and changing their consumption habits. The total power peak demand in summer has decreased to 39140 megawatts from 40150. This shows that people know the value of energy and are consuming more wisely. And as the country moves towards commercialization of Green Technology this annual exhibition will continue to focus on sustainable energy, renewable energy and green energy over the coming years, while providing visitors with essential information about innovative eco-products and services.

Iran focuses on producing clean energy. Tehran\'s Niroo Research Institute (NRI) or Energy Research Institute has hosted the first Iran Wind Energy Conference and exhibition. In attendance were Iran\'s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, administration officials, experts and college students from 80 universities throughout Iran. The conference discussed Iran\'s achievements in the field of clean energy. The president\'s Deputy for Research and Technology talked about Iran\'s advances in cogeneration or combined heat and power (CHP). CHP is the use of a heat engine or power station to simultaneously generate electricity and useful heat. Today Iran\'s Ministry of Energy spends 15% percent of its budget to invest in wind energy and solar energy.

Perhaps it would be hard for any country with easy access to abundant oil and gas resources, to adapt itself with a parsimonious pattern of energy consumption. This is what is happening in Iran. In fact the country sees no alternative but to move towards clean renewable energy, at a time when most of its large cities are struggling with environmental pollution. This is the sixth year that companies from Iran and a number of foreign countries gather in the renewable energy exhibition to display their latest achievements based on clean and efficient energy. The main objective of the event is to promote the use of energy from non fossil fuel resources such as solar panels, wind turbines and geothermal heat. Some experts believe that a considerable shift from oil and gas to clean alternative substitutes is far from reach in a short time period.

Iran\'s peaceful nuclear programme has grabbed media attention since nuclear talks between Iran and the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany started in Geneva. Russia\'s official position is that Iran is entitled to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. This is a position that has been reaffirmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russia is one of Iran\'s major energy partners and has been in charge of building of Bushehr nuclear power plant. But do ordinary Russians share the same view as their politicians? Press TV took to the streets of Moscow to find out. While most Russians questioned by Press TV believe that Iran should be able to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, there are some people who think it\'s not a simple issue. The next round of nuclear talks is seto to be held in November in Geneva, should shed more light on whether diplomacy can prevail in this situation. The majority of people here believe that Iran is entitled to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. This notion is also reflected in the Russian government which says that a diplomatic path should be pursued to resolve the nuclear issue.

Iran wants IAEA to inspect Israel Iran's nuclear point man says Tehran expects the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to "follow up" on a resolution to inspect Israel's nuclear facilities. Last year, the General Conference agreed on a resolution requiring Israel to open up for IAEA inspection. "This year we hope... that they would follow up on this, that the Zionist regime [of Israel] will open its nuclear sites to inspection by the IAEA and ... that the IAEA will also pursue this issue very firmly," Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi told Press TV. Salehi said that Western countries were mounting pressure to prevent the IAEA from taking action. He expressed hope that the agency would carry out its obligation without taking sides. Given that Israel is the sole possessor of nuclear weapons in the Middle East, putting pressure on Tel Aviv is the least the IAEA can do, the AEOI head added. Salehi's remarks comes as Arab member states of the IAEA plan to present a resolution to the body in the annual General Conference next week, urging Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Western countries, spearhead by the US, are urging the Arab members of the IAEA to drop the request. US State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said Wednesday that the IAEA was not the place to discuss Israel's membership in the NPT.
