Yemen\'s interior ministry says at least five people have been killed in the latest US drone strikes hitting the country\'s south.
Yemeni officials say the drone strikes targeted suspected al-Qaeda militants in Abyan province on Thursday. The US has carried out dozens of such strikes in the Arab nation over the past year, killing dozens of people. Washington claims the attacks target militants, but evidence on the ground shows many of the victims have been civilians. Yemenis have staged numerous protests to condemn the deadly drone strikes.

The death toll in Latvia\'s worst disaster in decades is rising. It has been announced that at least 51 people died when the roof of a supermarket collapsed on shoppers in the capital, Riga.
Rescuers are still pulling bodies from the rubble as hopes of finding more survivors are dwindling over 24 hours since the incident occurred. The roof of the Maxima supermarket collapsed late on Thursday when it was full of shoppers. The cause of the deadly tragedy has not been determined yet, although the police have opened a criminal investigation focusing on the construction of the building. The Libyan army goes on a state of alert in the eastern city of Benghazi after nine people including soldiers are killed in clashes between security forces and Salafi militants.
The fighting erupted following an army operation against the militants from Ansar al-Sharia group that lasted for several hours. Nearly 50 soldiers and civilians were also injured. The unrest comes after weeks of deadly clashes in the city and in the capital Tripoli. Local militias which were empowered during the NATO war on Libya have now turned against the state. Their refusal to put down arms has sparked public protests and the subsequent killings.

Anger continues to prevail in Pakistan over the U-S assassination drone campaign there. Pakistan\'s main opposition now urges the government to officially block the supply routes for US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief called it the best time to pressure Washington into putting an end to its deadly aerial attacks. He says the closure of routes could prove a serious disruption as US-led forces prepare for a planned withdrawal from Afghanistan next year. The statements came as protesters in northwestern Pakistan continued the blockade of NATO supplies to Afghanistan. The decision to halt the supplies was taken last week by a regional government controlled by Imran Khan\'s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party. Pakistan is the main supply route for foreign forces in landlocked Afghanistan.

US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is in Pakistan with an aim to defuse tensions over Washington\'s controversial drone strikes in the country.
Hagel flew from Kabul to Islamabad to meet with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other top officials-- including the new army chief. Ties between Washington and Islamabad have been seriously strained over Washington\'s deadly drone campaign in Pakistan\'s tribal areas. Human rights groups and Pakistani politicians say the missile attacks often claim civilian lives and must be stopped. In recent weeks, opposition activists in northwestern Pakistan have disrupted war supplies to US-led foreign forces in neighboring Afghanistan. The rising anti-US sentiment has prompted American officials to halt the shipments.

The Yemeni parliament has banned the drone attacks in a symbolic vote. Anger has been on the rise at the US drone attacks in Yemen. The country has seen several protests against deadly raids by the unmanned aerial vehicles. Washington has stepped up its drone operations in Yemen in recent months. The attacks have killed many people. The US says it\\\'s targeting al-Qaeda linked militants. But many Yemenis call this a violation of their sovereignty. The American drone strikes have killed large numbers of people in other Muslims countries, including Pakistan. Thousands of people have been evacuated from flood-damaged homes in northern Gaza. The United Nations and Gazan officials are talking of a humanitarian crisis.
The flooding, caused by days of torrential rains, has been so severe that many homes could only be accessed by rowing boat. The Gaza Health Ministry says one person has been killed and score of others injured as flood waters damaged poorly-built homes in the coastal territory. The government also says schools and other centers have turned into temporary shelters for thousands of homeless Palestinians. The deadly deluge has added to the woes of Palestinians in the coastal enclave, which continues to suffer from electricity cuts, a sewage crisis, and drinking water shortages-- all under a crippling Israeli blockade.

Russia has repeated its allegations that foreign-backed insurgents in Syria were behind the chemical weapons attacks in the country. Russia\'s UN ambassador says the US has provided no proof that the Syrian government was involved in the attacks.
Vitaly Churkin said that the claims that the Syrian government carried out the chemical weapons attacks are not persuasive. He added that Moscow views last August\'s deadly sarin gas attack outside Damascus as a provocation by the militants. The remarks came after a closed-door meeting on a UN investigation into the chemical weapons attacks in Syria. At the meeting, Russia and Western nations remained at loggerheads over who is to blame for the attacks. But UN experts recently said they have credible information that chemical weapons were used against the Syrian army and civilians. However, the U-N report has not determined whether the Syrian government or foreign-backed insurgents were responsible for the attacks.

It\'s been more than three weeks since vital supply route for the US led forces stationed in neighboring Afghanistan remains blocked in the North West of Pakistan. The supply route at Torkham border has been blocked by activists of religious and political parties to protest against the US assassination drone strikes in the tribal areas.
However, the move by the provincial government, which is run by Tehreek-e-Insaf or Justice Party, has put the central government in difficult position. That is why these top Pakistani civil and military authorities gathered in Islamabad to find a way out of the ongoing standoff. Despite efforts by the central government, the provincial administration has refused to allow trucks carrying supplies for the US forces in Afghanistan pass through the Torkham border.Pakistan is considered important for the US to ensure its forces\' smooth pull out of Afghanistan. The US has recently threatened to suspend billions of dollars in aid to Pakistan if supply routes are not reopened. In the face off continuing US drone attacks, Pakistan\'s civil and military leadership has promised to safeguard the country\'s national interests. However, they have not been able to come up with a clear strategy to pacify the growing public anger against the CIA\'s illegal and deadly drone campaign.

Thousands of Egyptians took to the streets of Cairo and elsewhere around the country to denounce what the protesters label \'the coup\'s constitution.
On Tuesday, more than a dozen students were injured as Morsi supporters staged protests against the military backed authorities. Police fired tear gas at students protesting outside Assiut University in Assuit province in Upper Egypt. Students held banners in support of Mohamed Morsi as they shouted anti police and army slogans. Such demonstrations are regarded as illegal, since they do not conform to a new law requiring organizers to give three days notice of a protest and to have it approved by the government. On another front, the Anti Coup Alliance said that the coalition will be boycotting the referendum which is set to take place next month. Many are fearful that Egypt would be gripped by another wave of deadly violence ahead of the referendum on what some call a disputed constitution.

Lebanon\\\'s Army commander has warned that the military will respond to any Israeli aggression.
The warning was made as General Jean Qahwaji\\\'s visited the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. Qahwaji says the Lebanese military is committed to the implementation of all United Nations Security Council resolutions, in particular 17-01. Earlier this month, Lebanon\\\'s south was the scene of deadly clashes between Israeli and Lebanese forces. The Iraqi military has destroyed the camps of al-Qaeda-linked militants in Anbar province.
The assault comes after several senior officers and soldiers were killed during an operation against militants in the western province. The Iraqi defense ministry says the reason behind the rise in violence in Iraq is the spillover of the war in neighboring Syria. Baghdad says it has information that shows the arrival of weapons and advanced equipment from Syria to Anbar and Nineveh provinces. The build-up is said to have encouraged al-Qaeda-linked militants to revive some of their camps that had been destroyed in 2008. Deadly violence in Iraq has surged to the highest levels since 2008, when the country was on the brink of an all-out civil war.

The warning comes after eyewitnesses unveiled a wave of brutal ethnic killings. UN chief Ban Ki-moon says all those responsible for the killings will face the consequences. He has asked the Security Council to nearly double the size of the UN mission in South Sudan. Since nearly a week ago, the country has been hit by deadly fighting between government forces and rebels loyal to former vice president, Riek Machar. The main aim of this exhibition is to tell the truth about the armed conflict in Syria. Several journalists, taking part in the event, have recently visited the crisis-hit Arab nation and collected exclusive photographs and videos. They\'ve also brought back various objects with them which give the audience a feeling of being there.
Among them is this wrecked car. It was loaded with over a ton of explosives. It is part of the evidence of a suicide bomb attack carried out in Damascus on 21 February just outside the Russian Embassy in which dozens of people were killed. This car was travelling behind a truck which was exploded on that fateful day. Its driver got injured before he could detonate the explosives. The car itself was badly damaged but police managed to removed the explosives safely. The photographers also managed to visit areas targeted by chemical weapons. They saw ruined buildings - including hospitals, schools and churches. They weren\'t allowed to film the actual army operations against militants. However, their main aim was to capture its devastating impacts. The organizers of the exhibition say the people they met in Syria remain hopeful that the conflict will end soon. However, this unique exhibition allows people elsewhere to take a glimpse of deadly carnage and devastations in Syria.
