[30 July 2012] West provoking civil war in Syria Jonathan Steele - English Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil. The Syrian government says outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists are the driving factor behind the unrest and deadly violence while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the killings. The anti-Syria Western regimes have been calling for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down, but Russia and China remain strongly opposed to the Western drive to oust Assad. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on July 28, "Our Western partners... together with some of Syria's neighbors are essentially encouraging, supporting and directing an armed struggle against [the Syrian government]." [06 April 2012] Istanbul conference: Call for civil war in Syria? - Middle East Today - Presstv - English A gathering of some 70 countries which took place in Istanbul, has declared the Syrian National Council as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. The Syrian government and the Syrian opposition inside Syria have refused the conference and have called it the conference of the "enemies of Syria." Although some reports have said that the west and some Arab states have already been arming the opposition, yet still it has not managed to bring down Assad's government, but how long can Assad hang on with the most powerful states in the world backing the rebel forces? With millions of Afghan refugees returning home to the capital, Kabul, shelter is hard to come by. Despite the scars of two decades of civil war, Kabul is seen as a city of hope. Hundreds of thousands of people struggle to survive there, living in abandoned buildings or tents.
