There was no point of hiding his close friendships with the News International family, so instead he tried to make it all out to be part of the job as it was revealed even in opposition he met with the Murdochs and Rebekah Brooks 44 times. News International paid for David Cameron to meet Murdoch in the Greek Island of Santorini in 2008. That year his friendship with Rebekah Brooks also flourished. They were neighbors and Brook's millionaire husband went to the same elite school as Cameron. Cameron denied ever making any overt or covert deals with News International. He was questioned over why he hired news international editor Andy Coulson as his media chief. Meanwhile three more people, including a sun journalist and police officer were arrested over the scandal. You could say David Cameron sailed through his day at the Leveson inquiry. But then he wasn't really given a rough ride. And what could have easily been a storm seems to have just passed him by. But he did admit his close friendships with the Murdoch's and brooks, at the same time admitting such close relationships were wrong. So it seems even if he just survives, he is a very much a damaged prime minister.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is the first foreign head of government to visit Pakistan after historic democratic transition of power in May this year. Cameron met Pakistan\'s new Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in capital Islamabad. The two discussed measures to enhance bilateral relations including trade and economic ties between Pakistan and Britain. Plans to legalize gay marriage in England and Wales is being debated in the UK Parliament. It is currently going through its two-day report stage and third reading. A Bahraini opposition group says the British government has a negative attitude to the revolution in the Persian Gulf state and rather supports the suppressive al-Khalifa regime in the country. Bahrain National Democratic Society’s Secretary General Fazel Abbas told Al-Alam news channel that London’s position is clear from comments by the British ambassador to Bahrain and the change in the al-Khalifa approach to protesters after the Bahraini ruler’s meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron “raise questions about Britain’s role in Bahrain”. “We are extremely displeased with the British government’s stance,” Abbas added. Last week, Cameron hosted talks with Bahraini ruler King Hamad al-Khalifa in London but no details of the meeting were made public except a brief statement by the British PM’s office. “Cameron reiterated Britain’s support for ongoing political reform in Bahrain. The Prime Minister also encouraged His Majesty to continue to demonstrate substantive progress in all areas,” the statement said. Ahead of his visit to London, the Bahraini dictator amended a law on public gatherings to “ban organizing protests, rallies, gatherings or sit-ins in Manama, with the exception of sit-ins outside (offices of) international organizations\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\". Ahead of Hamad’s visit on Tuesday, human rights group Amnesty International warned Cameron that Bahrain is displaying “a façade of supposed reform” though the reality is that “critics and dissenting voices are just locked up and silenced”. Fazel said the Bahraini opposition groups will surely continue peaceful protests, especially the Tamarod demonstration planned for August 14, despite the regime being fully geared up to suppress public rallies in the coming days.

[06 Aug 2012] Panetta raises threat of military attack on Iran Galloway - English US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has raised the threat of a military attack on Iran regarding its nuclear energy program in an effort to reassure what they call Israel during a trip to Tel Aviv. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems to dismiss the tough talk though, saying American statements of solidarity with Israel and hints at military attacks are not working. Iran however has denied the Western accusations that Tehran is seeking a military objective in its nuclear energy program. According to a Fatwa from the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei Iran is prohibited to follow such an objective. Russian President Vladimir Putin was in London on Thursday to discuss the Syrian issue with David Cameron. So far, Russia and China have opposed any kind of UN resolution that could be seen as supporting Libyan-style Western military intervention. "Britain has retaliated in part by blocking a Russian arm shipment to Syria but the weaponry keeps getting through at least to those favored by the West," said George Galloway.

Europe is shuddering under the threat of its worst storm in years. Hurricane-force winds lash mainland Europe, leaving five people dead or missing. Travel and transport are disrupted, with thousands forced to flee their homes. So far, Britain seems to be bearing the brunt, with 15000 homes evacuated. The Thames Barrier, designed to protect London from flooding, will remain shut on Thursday night. Across Britain, more than 100-thousand homes are without power.
