A heartbreaking documentary by filmmaker and journalist Ziad Zafar on the disappeared people in Pakistan. Timely and to the point. Points to the two major factors that determine Pakistani politics - the American geo-strategic interests and the politico-economic interests of the military establishment. Important to note that religious extremism and sectarianism in Pakistan have always been the function of these two factors. The American selfish interests in the region and the failure of political process since the establishment of Pakistan are the real causes behind religious extremism. Busharrafs war on terror is failing. This war is itself a form of and a cause of growing terrorism in the region. Those individuals involved in militant organizations and terrorist activities should be brought to justice. But it should be done through given constitutional and criminal procedures instead of extra-judicial kidnappings and killings. Because illegitimate and unpopular power has its own logic. It does not distinguish between one type of body from the other - one type of citizen from another - militant or otherwise - when it comes to the question of preserving itself. The history of dictatorships in Pakistan - military or democratic - provide plenty of examples where in the name of National Integrity Development Islamization and more recently Curbing Islamic Extremism and War on Terror the state has suppressed dissent liberties and freedom of its citizens. Notice the list of missing people at the end of the documentary. Recognize the backgrounds of people through their names. Are they only what the Pakistani state likes to call the Islamic Militants. Or the list also includes the Baloch the Muhajir the Pashtoon the Sunni the Shia the Liberal the Human Rights Activist and the Journalist.

Palestine Foundation (PLF) of Pakistan has announced that an International Palestine Solidarity Conference will be held in Islamabad on July 29. Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, PLF office bearers said that guest leaders from foreign countries including Palestine,UK,US,Iran,Syria,Egypt,Lebanon and national political, religious leaders and scholars will speak at the Conference. Muzaffar Hashmi, Allama Qazi Ahmed Noorani, Mehfooz Yar Khan advocate, S Shabbar Raza and Sabir Karbalai Abu Maryam. They said that Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniya will speak through a vide message. Apart from foreign guest speakers, the list of speakers also include: Raja Zafar ul Haq, Chairman, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Chief of Milli Yakjehti Council, Haji Adeel, Senator and vice president of Awami National Party, Liaquat Baloch, deputy chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Mohammad Khan Shirani, Chairman of Council of Islamic Ideology, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Secretary General of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Allama Abbas Kumaili, former senator and chief of Jafaria Alliance Pakistan, J Salik, Chief of World Minorities Alliance Pakistan. The PLF officials said that they have chalked out a comprehensive programme to express solidarity with Palestinians during the month of Holy Ramzan.

Meeting in the Turkish seaside resort of Bodrum under the auspices of the UJN the scholars, who represent all of Pakistan\\\'s major Islamic sects and tendencies, agreed to come together to tackle religious intolerance in the interests of Muslim unity. The signatories include Sahibzada Muhammad Hamid Raza of the Sunni Ittehad Council, Sahibzada Muhammad Hamid Raza of Jamiat Ahle Hadith and Allama Syed Niaz Hussain Shah of Hoza Ilmia Jamia Al Muntazar. The 11-point UJN Pakistan Unity Declaration commits the signatories and the UJN to sign statements in the upcoming Islamic month of Muharram denouncing the killing of fellow human beings on the basis of colour, creed, ethnicity or religion as haram. The statements will also declare excommunication or takfir against fellow Muslims and abusing the Prophet Muhammad\\\'s family and companions as against the Shariah. Also party to the accord were Allama Mohammad Sadiq Qureshi (Minhaj ul Quran International), Maulana Syed Ali Murtaza Zaidi (Jamay Imamia), Liaqat Baloch, MP (Jamaat-e-Islami) and Muhammad Sarwat Ejaz Qadri (Pakistan Sunni Tahreek). The accord is based on Charter 3:103, initiated by the Islamic Human Rights Commission in 1997 and now a UJN core project, and since adopted by scores of Muslim organisations, which calls for Muslims to be united in accordance with the 103rd verse of the third chapter of the Holy Quran. It also addresses the challenging problem of madrasas in Pakistan, believed to be a breeding ground of intolerance, recommending that syllabuses and curriculums under the signatories\\\' respective spheres of influence address the need for respect, harmony and peace between all members of Pakistani society. Chair of IHRC, and UJN co-ordinator, Massoud Shadjareh said: \\\"The signing of the declaration is a detrmined step out of the quagmire of murder and fear that has come to characterise the landscape in Pakistan.
