As Syrian troops cut supply lines for foreign-backed insurgents and retake all but one town in the western region bordering Lebanon, militants look set to meet another setback ahead of a peace conference in Geneva. The rise in the number of extremist groups and the recent bloody infighting has led to differences among foreign states supporting the insurgency, among them Saudi Arabia is seen as the strongest supporter, prepared to go to the extremes to guarantee victory. With US President Barack Obama being blamed for manipulating intelligence against the Syrian government over a chemical attack in August, it looks like the equations of the Syrian war are rapidly changing

Syrian troops have made more advances, regaining control of key areas in the town of Adra, 30 kilometers from Damascus.
During their offensive in the area, the Syrian troops killed a large number of foreign-backed insurgents. The AL-Qaeda linked militants committed atrocities in the area after seizing control of Adra. Members of religious minority groups residing in the city have been the main target of the militant attacks over the past few days. The insurgents executed more than 80 civilians and kidnapped scores of people to be used as human shields. Al-Qaeda linked groups often resort to executions and abductions to frighten the local people.

The army says two Katyusha-style rockets launched from Lebanon landed near the town of Kiryat Shmona. In response, the Israeli artillery fired a barrage of shells into the Lebanese border region of Arqub. Uninhabited areas were targeted in both attacks, causing no injuries or damage. Israel\\\'s minister of military affairs has warned of even tougher retaliation if the attacks persist. Moshe Yaalon has held the Lebanese government responsible for the latest rocket attack. The area has remained mostly quiet since a month-long war in 2006 between Israel and the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah. The Lebanese Army says D-N-A tests confirm the identity of an arrested Saudi suspect as Majed al-Majed. He is the leader of a terrorist group behind a deadly attack on the Iranian embassy in Beirut.
Majed was arrested on Monday. He is the ring leader of Abdullah Azzam Brigades, an al-Qaeda offshoot. The group launched the attack against the Iranian Embassy on November 19. The back-to-back blasts left at least 23 people dead, including an Iranian diplomat. Over 160 others were also injured in the violence. The Saudi ambassador to Lebanon has said that Beirut should extradite Majed to Riyadh in case the man\\\'s identity is confirmed.
Tehran says a team will be sent to Lebanon to be involved in the interrogation of the man who was behind a terrorist attack on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut.
Iran\\\'s Foreign Minister Mohamamd Javad Zarif appreciated efforts by Lebanese officials in the arrest of Saudi national Majed al-Majed. Zarif made the comments during a phone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart, Adnan Mansour.
