The Emirati foreign minister, Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan is in the Iranian capital Tehran for an official visit. Abdullah bin Zayed arrived in Tehran\'s MehrAbad airport earlier in the day. There, he was welcomed by his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the two held talks afterwards. Abdullah bin Zayed has also met with Iran\'s President Hassan Rouhani. This is the first trip by the UAE\'s foreign minister to Iran in years and since president Rouhani took office in August this year. Tehran and Abu Dhabi have billions of dollars in annual trade.

More Afghans are killed in the United States\' assassination drone attacks. An airstrike in eastern Nuristan province leaves two people dead. Yesterday, a civilian fell victim to a drone strike in Helmand. And On Thursday, a child was killed and two women were wounded in a drone strike on a home also in Helmand. The US often uses its assassination drones to hit targets in several Muslim countries including Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Some say it\'s an important milestone pushing Egypt towards a new political era but others, notably among them the Muslim Brotherhood say the new draft constitution to be put to a referendum within months, is a step backwards especially since the new draft is seen as giving sweeping powers to the military and banning political parties based on religions. Washington calls Beijing\'s declaration of an air defense zone over the East China Sea provocative. White House spokesman Jay Carney says the United States does not recognize the plan and will NOT comply with it. He says the US will continue to conduct its military operations in the region like before. Carney also says China\'s behavior is not consistent with its role as a major power and called on Beijing to scrap the air defense zone. China says its decision to establish the air defense zone in the East China Sea is in line with international laws and Washington should respect it.

North Korea has deported an American veteran who\'d been held since October for alleged hostile acts against Pyongyang. North Korean officials say they\'ve released 85-year-old Merrill Newman after he apologized for his alleged crimes during the Korean War, and also because of his age and health condition. The war veteran was pulled from a plane on October 26th while preparing to leave the country after a 10-day tour. He\'s now landed in Beijing, expressing happiness to be on his way home. Meanwhile, U-S Vice President Joe Biden has hailed North Korea for releasing the man, saying it was wrong to detain him in the first place. Biden has also called for another detained American to be swiftly released.

US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is in Pakistan with an aim to defuse tensions over Washington\'s controversial drone strikes in the country. Hagel flew from Kabul to Islamabad to meet with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other top officials-- including the new army chief. Ties between Washington and Islamabad have been seriously strained over Washington\'s deadly drone campaign in Pakistan\'s tribal areas. Human rights groups and Pakistani politicians say the missile attacks often claim civilian lives and must be stopped. In recent weeks, opposition activists in northwestern Pakistan have disrupted war supplies to US-led foreign forces in neighboring Afghanistan. The rising anti-US sentiment has prompted American officials to halt the shipments.

Thousands of Egyptians took to the streets of Cairo, and elsewhere around the country to demand an immediate end to military rule and express solidarity with student protesters facing a brutal crackdown by security forces.

Syrian media reports say 22 Saudi terrorists have been killed in an attack by the army on the al-Nusrah front and the Jaysh al-Islam insurgents in Adra. The Syrian army launched a heavy crackdown against militants in Adra after they seized control of the town two days ago. The al-Qaeda-linked insurgents reportedly beheaded 50 civilians-- including the town\'s mayor, and hung up their heads in a market. Adra which is located northeast of Damascus, has a population of about 100-thousand including Alawites, Druze, Christians and Sunni Muslims. Syria has been gripped by a deadly war since 2011.

China has condemned Japan for criticizing its new air identification defense zone amid an escalating war of words between the two neighbors. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said the flight zone over a group of disputed islands in the East China Sea violates the freedom of aviation over the high seas and should be canceled. But China has once again defended the move-- saying Abe is using the situation to QUOTE maliciously slander Beijing. The Chinese Foreign Ministry says the establishment of the zone is in line with international laws and does not affect aviation freedom. Tensions have been running high between the two Asian powerhouses in the past year over the Japanese-controlled archipelago. Both countries have scrambled jets and carried out patrols in the area.

An Israeli soldier has been killed in clashes with the Lebanese army in the Ras al-Naqoura area. The incident happened after the Israeli soldier tried to infiltrate into Lebanon. Israeli military has also confirmed that one of its forces has been killed along the border with Lebanon. Reports say Israeli warplanes are flying over the region and have violated the Lebanese airspace. A spokesman for the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon has told Press TV that they are trying to find out the facts over the incident. Andrea Tenenti says UNIFIL has urged both sides to show restraint.

Meanwhile, the Israeli prime minister has said Tel Aviv will not stop even for a moment settlement construction on occupied Palestinian land despite the fact that U-N Resolution 4-4-6 and a ruling by the International Court of Justice conclude the Israeli settlements violate international law. In Egypt, an alliance of Islamic groups called anti-coup alliance has finally made its widely-expected announcement about the constitutional referendum slated for January. The alliance was formed following the July\'s ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi --- a move which it sees as a military coup. In its long-awaited announcement, the alliance said it had weighed the option of rallying for a No-vote, but finally decided to go for a boycott. The alliance said it\'s against the referendum, because it will be held by a government which it says has killed and detained many people following Morsi\'s ouster.

Corruption in Iran-UAE Gas Agreement. What is today known as Crescent case was an agreement signed in 2001 between National Iranian Oil Company, NIOC and United Arab Emirates oil and gas company Crescent to sell the company gas. The case is now in International Hague Arbitration Tribunal for corruption. According to the signed contract, Iran was obligated to export sour gas from joint Iran-UAE oil and gas field, Salman to UAE for twenty five years. Iranian officials say that the incentive to sign the contract was signed not national interest but corruption and bribe. According to Iranian Judiciary some of the officials involved in this case have already been convicted of taking bribe in Iran\'s criminal court.

At least eight people have been killed in mortar shell attacks on an Iraqi army base west of the capital Baghdad. Officials say four of the victims were army officers, including a brigade commander. Four soldiers were also killed in the attack, which took place in the Abu Ghraib area. Just two days ago, gunmen killed five senior officers and ten soldiers in the western province of Anbar. Violence has spiked in Iraq in 2013. Based on UN figures, at least eight-thousand people have lost their lives across the country this year alone.

Iran and Afghanistan, two countries with a shared language and similar cultures are now planning to sign an agreement that will solidify their friendship. Two weeks ago US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel was in Afghanistan but while he was there hoping to negotiate a security treaty, Afghan President Hamid Karzai flew to Iran to meet up with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani. According to the country\'s foreign ministry spokesman Karzai\'s brief visit to Iran on the 8th of December was aimed to strengthen economic ties, reviewing the state of Afghan refugees in Iran, and the trilateral cooperation of Iran, India and Afghanistan in expanding Iran\'s Chabahar port. Press TV sources say the insurgents were trying to infiltrate into Syrian territory from Lebanon. But the Syrian army chased them, killing a dozen and injuring many others. Syrian troops have on many occasions blocked such attempts by the foreign-backed insurgents over the past months. Syria has been rocked by deadly unrest since March 20-11. Damascus says armed terrorists are the driving factor behind the deadly violence while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the killings.

Israel has made an announcement that they produce tenders for a further 2000 new illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem al Quds. Israeli prime minister made the announcement just one week before the Israelis are set to release 24 Palestinian prisoners who have been held in Israeli jails since before the Oslo agreement in 1993. Members of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation slammed the Israeli authorities for defying calls from both the EU and the US to halt settlement expansion and further stated that this move could seriously jeopardize the US brokered Palestinian Israeli negotiations.

There has been an increase in attacks against Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli army which now use live bullets against protesters. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Israeli attacks have left at least 25 Palestinians dead only this year. It\'s nearly four times the number of deaths last year. During West Bank\'s demonstrations on Friday, five Palestinians were shot with live bullets, two with rubber-coated steel bullets. Two journalists were also injured.

Egypt has witnessed fresh demonstrations demanding an immediate end to the military rule. Students protesting against the army-backed government faced tear gas and bullets fired by security forces.

An Israeli court has extended the house arrest of the mentally-ill Palestinian teenager Ahmad Dawuod Obeid.The 19-year-old was beaten and arrested by Israeli forces back in August in Issawiya, near Jerusalem al-Quds. Ahmad appeared in court several times on charges of throwing stones at Israeli forces. He faced a heavy fine and was later released on condition that he remains under house arrest.
