One of the main attractions at the 2011 Paris Air Show was the Solar Impulse, a prototype aircraft powered exclusively by sunlight. It's only a single seater and is regularly delayed by either too much wind or too little sun, but it is a remarkable aircraft, solar powered and able to fly during day or night. And luckily for onlookers, conditions at the Paris show on Sunday were perfect for the Solar Impulse's first public demonstration flight. The aircraft flew for 20 minutes in front of large crowds at Bourget airport, where the world's aviation industry is gathered for the biennial Paris Air Show. The Solar Impulse is powered by the sun through 10-thousand solar cells which cover its 63-metre (207-feet) wingspan and generate about 40 horsepower, about the same power a small scooter uses, according to the flight team.

According to a report published on August 12 by the newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's achievements on the ground against the insurgents in Aleppo have frustrated both Ankara and Washington. The report added that, the US is trying to establish a no-fly zone in Syria in order to weaken the Syrian army's air force. However, they will not succeed. Considering the situation, the US tries to supply the Syrian insurgents with anti-aircraft equipment and Stinger missiles, the report said. A U-S drone has crashed in Afghanistan\\\'s eastern Nangarhar province. Shortly after the incident, Taliban militants arrived at the site and took away the crashed aircraft with them. The militants have claimed that they shot down the unmanned aircraft. U-S forces have also been deployed in the area searching for the drone. Israeli aircraft have launched airstrikes against the positions of the Hamas resistance movement in Khan Yunis and other areas in the besieged Gaza Strip, hours after Israeli troops injured dozens of Palestinians during protests in the coastal enclave. Iran\'s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has captured a US ScanEagle drone over the Persian Gulf waters upon its intrusion into the Iranian airspace. IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi made the announcement on Tuesday, adding that the Iranian armed forces enjoy full intelligence command over foreign movements in the Persian Gulf region. Referring to the captured ScanEagle drone, the Iranian commander pointed out, \"Such drones are usually launched from large aircraft carriers.\" The ScanEagle drone, which has a 10ft (3m) wingspan, is a long-endurance aircraft built by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing.Iran has released footage of the captured drone. China has warned the United States to be cautious in its words and actions with regard to territorial disputes involving China and its neighbors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry warning comes amid a diplomatic wrangle over Beijing\\\'s newly announced air defense zone in the East China Sea. Before this, Washington had warned Beijing against imposing an air defense zone over both the South China Sea and East China Sea. US State Secretary John Kerry said recently that Washington would help its regional allies in protecting their territorial waters. China and its neighbors lay similar claims to parts of the strategic and resource-rich seas. The development comes days after Chinese fighter jets chased the US and Japanese military aircraft inside China\\\'s newly declared Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea. Chinese defense authorities say they have sent more fighter jets to the zone. The Chinese air force described the mission as a defensive measure in line with international law. China says foreign aircraft passing through the airspace, including passenger planes, will have to identify themselves to Chinese authorities. The zone includes the skies over islands at the heart of a territorial dispute between Japan and China. China is also locked in territorial rows with the Philippines over wide swathes of the South China Sea and has said it might set up a similar zone there. Senior Chinese officials have repeatedly called on Washington not to take sides over the issue.

A Saudi source says Saudi Arabia is in talks with Pakistan to provide Syrian insurgents with anti-aircraft and anti-tank rockets. The source who is close to Saudi decision-makers referred to the recent meetings between Riyadh and Islamabad\'s high-ranking officials. Riyadh is seeking to provide the militants in Syria with Pakistan\'s version of Chinese shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles, known as Anza, and anti-tank rockets. The source also noted that Jordan will provide facilities to store the weapons before they are delivered to militants in Syria. The head of the Syrian National Coalition Ahmad Jarba said during a visit to northern Syria last week that powerful arms would be arriving soon.
