The US and Afghanistan are at loggerheads over a stalled security agreement that President Hamid Karzai has refused to sign despite increasing US pressure. The deal would allow between 12,000 to 14,000 troops, mostly American, to stay in Afghanistan beyond 2014. Under the pact, American forces would be able to enter Afghan homes as part of their operations and enjoy legal immunity, two of the most important sticking points. President Karzai suggests he\'s being bullied into signing an unfair pact.
Is Afghanistan best with or without this deal?
What would a permanent US stay in the country mean?

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif has advised the US against imposing new sanctions against Tehran. In an interview with Time magazine, Zarif said the Geneva nuclear deal is going to be QUOTE-dead if the US Congress imposes new sanctions, even if they do not take effect for six months. Two US senators are preparing legislation to impose new sanctions on Iran in six months if the deal goes nowhere. These sanctions would target Iran\'s oil exports, foreign exchange reserves, and industry. The senators are making the move despite the Geneva deal between Tehran and the P-five-plus-one group of countries, which includes the U-S. Washington has already imposed several rounds of illegal sanctions on Iran, causing problems mainly for ordinary Iranians.

Meanwhile, two students have been killed in a crackdown by security forces on protesting students at Cairo\'s al-Azhar University. The two died due to the wounds they sustained during the violence. 200 other students were also injured. An unspecified number of students have also been arrested. Government sources have not confirmed the fatalities. Egyptian security forces attacked the students with live rounds, tear gas and bird shots earlier on Monday. The students have been protesting the trial of their peers at a criminal court on charges of attacking the al-Azhar headquarters. Nearly 40 people were injured in similar protests on Sunday.

In the US prison at Guantanamo, despite various calls for a halt to humiliating and degrading treatment of inmates, such acts continue. In the latest development, US appeals court judges are questioning the need for genital searches of prisoners before meeting their lawyers. At a hearing of a three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Judge Thomas Griffith said that checking the prisoners\' private parts was both provocative and offensive. Griffith then cited the detainees\' right to have easy access to their lawyers as a legal obligation of the court. Some of the prisoners have decided not to meet their lawyers because genital searches were required beforehand. Meanwhile, another US appeals court is reviewing whether it is necessary to force-feed hunger-striking prisoners, an act which some people describe as torture.

Chuck Hagel is in Islamabad, the first ever visit by a US Defense Secretary over the past four years. What brings him to Pakistan is continued unofficial blockage of NATO supply line via northwestern routes of the country to Afghanistan. However, the central government in Islamabad has little control over autonomous northwestern provincial government. The regional government unofficially blocked the supply routes last month to protest against the killing of thousands of civilians in US drone attacks in country\'s tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

That well known candy-house in the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale has captured the imagination of many of us when we were children. And now the world\'s largest-ever gingerbread house is bringing back those memories.
The tasty house is located in the US state of Texas and it\'s nearly the size of a tennis court. And of course it has an edible exterior. This house was built by a group of volunteers, all in the name of charity. And now it holds the Guinness World Record for the world\'s largest gingerbread house. The group used thousands of pounds of sugar, eggs, butter, flour and other ingredients, as well as 23 thousand pieces of hard candy, decorating the outside of the house. But you might want to think twice before grabbing a bite as the structure packs in a staggering 36 million calories. Better to look, and not touch!

Iran has marked the second anniversary of the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan; In January 2012, a terrorist motorcyclist attached a magnetic bomb to Ahmadi Roshan\'s car in Tehran. Ahmadi Roshan\'s assassination was part of attacks against Iranian nuclear scientists. Professor Massoud Ali-Mohammadi, and professor Majid Shahriari were among other nuclear scientists who have been assassinated in the past couple of years by Israel-US agents in order to slow down the pace of Iran\'s scientific progress. Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, speaker of Iran\'s Parliament Ali Larijani says if there had not been such individuals as Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, we would not have reached the point where we are standing now. Larijani said Iran has made good progress in nuclear field. Referring to the Geneva action plan between Iran and the P5+1 group larijani said:
Meanwhile the father of assassinated nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan says the West is not trustworthy. At the same time, a group of the families of the assassinated nuclear scientists, in a meeting with the visiting British parliamentary delegation condemned the Wet double standard policy towards terrorism saying that this sinister phenomenon is a serious threat to global peace and security. For his part head of the British delegation Jack Straw said that the British Government and Parliament condemn all forms of terrorism including the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists.

Based on the Geneva deal between Iran and the P5+1, Tehran will limit some aspects of its nuclear energy program in return for the removal of some sanctions.

Syria\'s war spillover affecting countries thousands of kilometers away: the US Federal Bureau of Investigation is sounding the alarm over radicalized homegrown militants.
FBI Director James Comey says he\'s concerned about the militants inside the US who would be radicalized after returning from Syria. He says dozens of Americans have gone to Syria to fight alongside insurgents against the Syrian government. Comey has expressed concern that Syria has turned into a training ground for a new generation of terrorists. The American official has also acknowledged that it would be very hard to track such radicalized homegrown terrorists.
