[03 Aug 2012] How can Muslims in West help Islamic Awakening - English
After too much expectation and uncertainty, finally the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi won the election with 51.7 percent of the votes against Ahmed Shafiq. This came after a close competition in the second round, while some rumours were suggesting that the old regimes remnant Ahmed Shafiq might win. Thousands of Muslim Brotherhood supporters filled the streets and squares in Cairo and other cities to celebrate this victory, a turning point in Egypt's history to move from dictatorship to.
While Morsi succeeds Hosni Mubarak, who was overthrown 16 months ago after a popular uprising, the military council has this month curbed the powers of the presidency. This means that the head of state will have to work closely with the army on a planned democratic constitution. This week's Islam and Life asks: Egypt changes: How can Muslims in the west help the Islamic Awakening?

Iran\'s foreign minister says talks on reaching a comprehensive deal on Tehran\'s nuclear energy program should result in the total removal of all anti-Iran sanctions.
Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks during a press conference with visiting Swedish Foreign minister Carl Bildt in Tehran. Zarif says Tehran believes that U-S-led sanctions have been both illegal and counter-productive and did nothing to help solve the problem. Iran\'s top diplomat noted that the sanctions, which made it difficult for the Iranian companies to purchase even food and medical items, have intensified pessimism among the Iranian people. Bildt also voiced Sweden\'s support for finding a final and comprehensive solution to Iran\'s nuclear energy program. He says the issue can be solved within a six-month period it both sides act in good will.

The American Studies Association says it will go ahead with its decision to boycott Israel.
The incoming president of the association says she will fully support the boycott against Israeli academics over Tel Aviv\\\'s conflict with Palestinians. The move was launched last month by the five-thousand-member association. The American Studies Association says Israeli institutions that aid and support the illegal occupation are to be boycotted over the discriminatory treatment of Palestinians. Meanwhile, two New York politicians have introduced a legislation to pull state funding from any public college that boycotts Israel.

Tensions in Egypt are running high ahead of a new court appearance by ousted president Mohamed Morsi. The anti-coup alliance says at least 19 pro-Morsi protesters have been killed and many others injured in renewed violence.
The casualties have been reported from Cairo, Alexandria, Suez, Ismailia, and Fayoum. The clashes broke out when security forces fired tear gas, birdshot and live gunfire to disperse protesters. Demonstrators were out joining rallies after Friday prayers to demand an end to military rule and voice opposition to the new constitution. Similar violence has been reported from Suez, Assiut and northern Sinai. Security forces rounded up a large number of protesters across the country. Egypt has been tense ahead of Morsi\\\'s court and an upcoming referendum on a new constitution. Muslim Brotherhood has pledged to boycott the referendum slated to be held later this month.

Iran says inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the I-A-E-A, will visit the country\'s Arak heavy-water plant this coming Sunday.
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran says the visit comes in response to a request by the I-A-E-A. It also says this will be in line with Tehran\'s goodwill gesture to remove ambiguities over Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Tehran says the I-A-E-A\'s request is based on an accord reached between the Islamic Republic and the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in Geneva last month. It will be the third time I-A-E-A inspectors will visit Arak\'s heavy water reactor.

The leader of Lebanon\\\\\\\'s Hezbollah movement says Saudi Arabia was behind last month\\\\\\\'s twin bomb attack on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah told a Lebanese TV channel that he has no doubt that the al-Qaeda affiliated group which claimed responsibility for the attack was linked to the Saudi intelligence agency. Nasrallah also noted that the blasts, which targeted the Iranian Embassy in south Beirut, were related to Saudi Arabia\\\\\\\'s anger toward Iran and its failure in Syria. Saudi Arabia has supported and funded the insurgent groups fighting against the Syrian government. The November 19 embassy bombings left 25 people dead and over a hundred and fifty injured.

The US administration warns the Congress that passing new sanctions against Iran will prove to the world that America negotiates in bad faith. White House spokesman Jay Carney says passage of new sanctions will undermine efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution of the standoff over Iran\'s nuclear program. He stated that any new sanctions would give the Iranians Quote-- an excuse Unquote to push the terms of the Geneva nuclear agreement to the side. The latest push by the White House comes as several groups of Republican and Democratic senators are making efforts to target Iran with a new set of sanctions. Carney added that if Tehran failed to abide by the terms of the deal, the White House would support new sanctions against the country. According to last month\'s Geneva deal, the U-S and its Western partners made a commitment to refrain from imposing new sanctions for six months.

Female activists are said to be playing a major role in the shaping of Yemen\'s political future, as they work to resolve the nation\'s most pressing issues in a National Dialogue Conference.
The NDC is a historic six month event which is designed to resolve the Yemen\'s most pressing issues through peaceful negotiations between the country\'s top political and tribal leaders.
However, as the Yemeni uprising has displayed through the past two years, the youth of Yemen and mainly Yemeni females, will no longer tolerate being left aside from playing a pivotal role in shaping their country\'s future.

News has just come out that the Justice Department secretly collected two months of telephone records for reporters and editors at The Associated Press.
The records included calls from several AP bureaus and the personal phone lines of several staffers, AP President Gary Pruitt has called the subpoenas a \"massive and unprecedented intrusion\" into its reporting.\"
These records potentially reveal communications with confidential sources across all of the newsgathering activities undertaken by the AP during a two-month period, provide a road map to AP\'s newsgathering operations and disclose information about AP\'s activities and operations that the government has no conceivable right to know,\" wrote Pruitt, the news agency\'s CEO.
The AP reported that the government has not said why it wanted the records. But it noted that US officials have said they were probing how details of a foiled bomb plot that targeted a US-bound aircraft leaked in May 2012.
On this episode of Inside Out, Susan Modaress takes an in-depth look at the cyber security of the United States in the Obama administration.

[04 June 2012] 'Pakistan under pressure to give into US demand' - English
Washington has been using drones in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia and claims that it is targeting militants, but civilians are the main victims of the attacks. Figures show that the American drone strikes killed at least 212 people in Yemen and Pakistan in the month of May. The aerial attacks were initiated by former US President George W. Bush but have escalated under President Barack Obama.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Naveed Ahmad, defense and diplomacy analyst from Islamabad, to further discuss the issue.
