Since the US. and Britain first launched their attack in October of 2001, things have been very unstable and insecure in Afghanistan. The country has one of the lowest life expectancies on earth according to the CIA World Factbook. Instability and violence persists as foreign troops continue to occupy the country. UN Ambassador Mohammed Khazee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, explained the efforts that need to be taken in order to improve the situation at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
Khazee made clear that in such a process, the self-determination and sovereignty of Afghanistan should be protected. Khazee made specific reference to the problem of narcotic drugs, that resurfaced in Afghanistan, and caused difficulties throughout the entire region, since the overthrow of the Taliban. With foreign troops scheduled to leave in 2014, among many other big changes, many are hopeful that the situation in Afghanistan can improve.

It\'s been more than three weeks since vital supply route for the US led forces stationed in neighboring Afghanistan remains blocked in the North West of Pakistan. The supply route at Torkham border has been blocked by activists of religious and political parties to protest against the US assassination drone strikes in the tribal areas.
However, the move by the provincial government, which is run by Tehreek-e-Insaf or Justice Party, has put the central government in difficult position. That is why these top Pakistani civil and military authorities gathered in Islamabad to find a way out of the ongoing standoff. Despite efforts by the central government, the provincial administration has refused to allow trucks carrying supplies for the US forces in Afghanistan pass through the Torkham border.Pakistan is considered important for the US to ensure its forces\' smooth pull out of Afghanistan. The US has recently threatened to suspend billions of dollars in aid to Pakistan if supply routes are not reopened. In the face off continuing US drone attacks, Pakistan\'s civil and military leadership has promised to safeguard the country\'s national interests. However, they have not been able to come up with a clear strategy to pacify the growing public anger against the CIA\'s illegal and deadly drone campaign.

[19 July 2012] Obama drones akin to Bush torture - English
Relatives of three US citizens killed in non-UN sanctioned US assassination drone strikes in Yemen have sued senior officials at the US Defense Department and the CIA.
According to the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, the killings of US-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, his 16-year-old son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki and naturalized US citizen Samir Khan were unconstitutional, Reuters reported.
The victims' relatives said that the three assassinations committed by the CIA violated US legal guarantees, including the right to due process.
On January 31, President Obama confirmed that the US uses the unmanned drones in Pakistan and other countries.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Alfred Lambremont Webre, human rights & war crimes lawyer, to further discuss the issue.
