Each participating institution in itself plays a significant role in bridging social disparities and promoting unity, harmony, tolerance and justice amongst the community at large. The event packed with mesmerizing Qir’at, beautiful poetry, thought provoking lectures exemplified that Imam Husayn’s (as) sacrifice continues to be the spring source for unity and global reforms against oppression and injustice. Moulana Wahidi and Qari Hamdani mesmerized the gathering with awe-inspiring Qir’at. Speakers stresses that more opportunities like Husayn Day should be organized collaboratively to actuate awareness, harmony and cooperative environment in the community, and expel the views spread by Takfiri’s and other agencies of hatred and sectarianism. During the program Salat ul Asr with Jamat was performed, lead by Moulana Shabbiri and attended by all the Muslim participants. Contrast this one with the historical Qasim. Reliable histories report that on the night of \\\\\\\'Ashura\\\\\\\' the Imam (\\\\\\\'a) gathered his companions in a tent whose location, as described by the phrase \\\\\\\'inda qurbil-ma\\\\\\\', was the place where water used to be kept, or near it. There he delivered that very well-known sermon of the night preceding \\\\\\\'Ashura\\\\\\\'. I do not want to mention its details here, but, to put it briefly, in this sermon the Imam told them that every one of them was free to depart and leave him to confront the enemy alone. The Imam did not want anybody to stay just for considerations of courtesy or to remain out of compulsion, or even to think that they were obliged to do so by virtue of the allegiance (bay\\\\\\\'ah) they had given him. Hence he tells them, \\\\\\\"You are all free, my companions, members of my family, my sons, and my nephews-everyone-to leave without being liable to anything. They [i.e. the enemy\\\\\\\'s forces] have nothing against anyone except me. The night is dark. Take advantage of the darkness of the night and depart. They will definitely not stop you.\\\\\\\" At first, he expresses his appreciation for them and tell them, I am most pleased with you. I do not know of any companions better than mine, and no better relatives than the members of my family.\\\\\\\" But all of them tell him, in unison, that such a thing was impossible. What answer will they give to the Prophet on the Day of Resurrection? What will happen to loyalty, to humanity, to love and attachment? Their ardent responses and their words said on that occasion melt a heart of stone and are most moving. One of them says, \\\\\\\"Is one life worth enough to be sacrificed for someone like you? I wish that I were brought to life seventy times to die seventy time for your sake.\\\\\\\" Another says, \\\\\\\"I would lay down a thousand lives for your sake if I had them.\\\\\\\" Another says, \\\\\\\"If I were to sacrifice my life for you and my body were burnt to ashes and the ashes were cast to wind, and were this done a hundred times, I would still love to die for your sake.\\\\\\\" The first to speak was his brother Abu al-Fadl, and then the Imam changed the subject and told them about the events of the next day, informing them that they all would be killed. All of them receive it as a great good news.

Husayn Day: Beacon of Unity Press Release Husayn Day Exemplifies Muslim Unity in Houston: Houston, TX – Dec 07, 2013, Muslims from all factions of society came together to promote the cause of unity and brotherhood amongst the believers, by drawing lessons from the sacrifices of Imam Husayn (as); the grandson of the last Prophet, Mohammad (saw), a mercy upon the mankind. The annual Husayn day was organized and sponsored by Islamic Education Center (IEC) Houston and supported by prominent Muslim organizations of Houston including but not limited Makkah Masjid Dairy Ashford, Muslim Council of USA, Buzm-e-Mustafa, Minhaj-ul-Quran, Markazi Tanzeem-e-Imamia, Dar-e-Abbas, Ali School, Azadar-e-Husayn, Scouts of Islam, CAIR, ACT, et al. Each participating institution in itself plays a significant role in bridging social disparities and promoting unity, harmony, tolerance and justice amongst the community at large. The event packed with mesmerizing Qir’at, beautiful poetry, thought provoking lectures exemplified that Imam Husayn’s (as) sacrifice continues to be the spring source for unity and global reforms against oppression and injustice. Moulana Wahidi and Qari Hamdani mesmerized the gathering with awe-inspiring Qir’at. Speakers stresses that more opportunities like Husayn Day should be organized collaboratively to actuate awareness, harmony and cooperative environment in the community, and expel the views spread by Takfiri’s and other agencies of hatred and sectarianism. During the program Salat ul Asr with Jamat was performed, lead by Moulana Shabbiri and attended by all the Muslim participants. In the opening note, resident Aalim of IEC Moulana Shabbiri emphasized on the principles of Islam extensively shared by Muslims across the globe. Moulana Awaisi resident Aalim of Makkah Masjid stressed on Qur’anic teachings that regardless of theological orientations, all Muslims, Shia or Sunni, shall embrace brotherhood to fail divisive plots of external enemies. Br. Afeef khan, an eloquent intellectual, highlighted how ignorance and absence of public mindset is weakening Muslims and acting as an apparatus for exploitation by oppressive political powers. We must take lessons from Imam Husayn (as) on how to confront such oppressors and remain steadfast to sacrifice everything for truth and righteousness. Similarly, Dr. Butt, a prominent intellectual, shared his views that our common goal must be to help each other in attaining pleasure of Allah (swt) and this should be a sufficient call for Muslims to come together. Br. Mustapha Carol, Executive Director of CAIR, articulated that civil liberties and social justice would prevail, if Muslims stand fortified for the common causes and become active on socio-political fronts. Researcher and scholar Moulana Shamshad Haider elaborated that the Islamic principles are based on humanity so one should act as human in order to be a Muslim. Revered poets, Ayaz Mufti and Zafar Taqvi blessed the gathering with beautiful and thought provoking poetry. The program concluded with Salat-al-Jamat and a community dinner for all attendees. The organizers are grateful to the community of Greater Houston, Media Partners, and participating agencies who showed such interest and cooperation in making the program successful. This program was highly appreciated by the scholars and participants and they insisted to hold programs geared towards the unity of Muslims in the Houston.

Episode 7 of the ground-breaking new film following the journey of five students as they make their way to the Holy land of Karbala. This episode depicts the ultimate sacrifice that took place in the plains of Karbala. The tyrannical Yazid had amassed an army of over 10,000 soldiers with one intention: to destroy the essence of Islam. Imam Husayn took a small party of Godly men, as well as his own family: a group consisting of women and children as young as his six-month old baby son. While the armies of Yazid blocked off the camp of Imam Husayn from having any access to the river Euphrates, Imam Husayn himself gave up his own water supplies to quench the thirst of one of the battalions of Yazid, which was led by Hurr. After seeing the pure-hearted intentions and the merciful personality of Imam Husayn, Hurr changed sides and joined the heroic ranks of Husayn, despite knowing that he would be slain amongst them. But knowing that he was on the right path was more valuable to Hurr than the worldly riches Yazid had offered him. Al-Abbas, the brother of Imam Husayn and the flag-bearer of the righteous, rode against the armies of Yazid, in an attempt to get water from the Euphrates. When he filled his water-carrier, the armies attacked from all sides. First, they cut one of his arms and then they cut the other arm from his body. Thus, Al-Abbas was tragically martyred. The events of Karbala make you wonder: how could people become so cruel the they would prevent a man from taking water to children dying of thirst? The tragedy of Karbala epitomised the struggle between good and evil which has existed before time. Both armies claim to be Muslims. On the one hand, you see masses of pawns united for the sake of wealth, worldly rewards and fear of losing their mundane comforts. And on the other side, you see 72 men who with courage stand up, ready to sacrifice everything they have for the sake of justice and truth. Imam Husayn’s sacrifice is the greatest sacrifice made in history. It defines humanity, friendship, love and freedom and the true message of the Holy Prophet [s] What is it about the ancient city of Karbala that captivates Muslims? What makes approximately 30 million people travel there each year? The ziarat [pilgrimage] to Karbala is considered a sacred journey for Muslims across the world, especially the followers of Ahlulbayt (as).
