[253] Hadith Explanation by Imam Khamenei | Should You Give Everything...
Should one give everything they have for the sake of Allah?
In what situation is it wrong to give everything one has for the sake of Allah?...
Should one give everything they have for the sake of Allah?
In what situation is it wrong to give everything one has for the sake of Allah?
And in what situation is it permissible for one to give all they have for the sake of Allah?
And finally, how can one place the manners of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (A) with the tradition of Imam Ja\\\'far al-Sadiq (A) which on face value seem to be contradictory?
Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei narrates and explains a tradition narrated from the 6th divinely appointed Imam, Imam Ja\\\'far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq (A), where his eminence (A) answers: \\\"Should You Give Everything You Have For Allah?\\\".

What is definition of the Arabic word \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'Haya\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'; which is commonly translated as modesty, bashfulness, shyness, or shame?
And what does the culture prevalent in the world say about \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'Haya\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' and being shy or bashful?
What are the two foundations for \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'Haya\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' as far as modern-day psychology is concerned?
Is it wrong to feel ashamed when one has done something wrong?
Is it wrong for one to not want others to know about their errors or sins?
And what is the difference between being modest and being lazy when trying to correct ones\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' wrongs based upon \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'Haya\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'?
Does \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'Haya\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' in its Islamic sense, mean that one shouldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t defend themselves?
Finally, \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Why Did Allah Create \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'Haya\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" in a human being?
The late Ayatollah Misbah-Yazdi (R) provides us with a short, but profound lesson on the basics of loving Allah.

Some people throw around the term \'Merciful Islam\' or \'Rahmani Islam\'; but what are some intricacies regarding this term?
Why did Imam Khomeini (R) remove Ayatollah Montazeri from the position of potential successorship of the Islamic Republic?
What is one of the ways in which the man-made and faulty ideologies of humanism and liberalism are injected into Islam?
What does the holy Qur\'an say about the term \'Merciful Islam\', as is it interpreted in a wrong manner by some?
How is the holy Qur\'an more all-encompassing than the term \'Merciful Islam\'?
What is the overall framework of relations between Muslims and non-Muslims as far as the holy Qur\'an is concerned?
Imam Khomeini (R), Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei, and Dr. Hasan Abbasi all come together and answer the question, \"What Does The Term \'Merciful Islam\' Truly Mean?\"
The only way to stay on track is to follow Wilayah.

Have you ever though about \"Who Is The Best Servant of Allah?\"
Well if you haven\'t, you should because it\'s an interesting question.
But perhaps more important, have you ever thought about how YOU can be Allah\'s best servant?
What does the 5th divinely appointed Imam, Imam Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir (A) say about the qualities of the best servants of Allah?
And who does Imam al-Baqir (A) quote when he speaks about the qualities of the best servants of Allah?
What should you do when you do good?
And what should you do when you do wrong?
What should you do when you are granted something by the Almighty Allah?
And what should you do when you are faced with a troubling difficulty?
And there\'s one more questions, but you\'ll have to watch to find out.
Sayyid Shahryar answers in this One Minute Wisdom using the immaculate words of Imam al-Baqir (A), who quotes another immaculate infallible.
So go ahead and try your best to be one of Allah\'s best servants.

How does a person act when they like or love someone?
And with this answer in mind, how do we act when we are in the presence of Allah; such as during our 5 daily Salat?
What does eating less food or wearing simple clothes have to do with the love for Allah?
Is it wrong to have love for Allah, and yet, want to eat good food and wear nice clothes?
Still, what is an unintended consequence of wearing nice clothes and eating good food, in regards to our love for Allah?
And what does it mean to have Shirk, when talking about having the love for Allah in one\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s heart?
Finally, what are the signs that you love Allah? And why should one \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Eat Less, Wear Simple, Love Allah\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\".

==============================
We are not supposed to abandon any of our needs, and besides our needs, any of our interests. We are supposed to increase ourselves each moment. We are not supposed to forget ourselves. Forgetting oneself is in fact a divine punishment. “Those who forget about God, He will make them forget themselves.” [Qur’an 59:19] Since they forgot God, God does something that they forget themselves too. When you look at a sinner, you see that he has forgotten himself, what benefits him and his enjoyments.
Each sin means you have forgotten and abandoned your own interests, enjoyments, likings and entertainments. Seeking benefits is not bad, but which kinds of benefits? Your small benefits or the great, lasting benefits? In fact, doing any good action is a kind of being self-seeking! But it’s a good way of being self-seeking and not bad. When is self-seeking bad? If you want your own benefits and others to sacrifice for you, this is wrong.
When is self-seeking good? It’s when you seek your own benefits by sacrificing for others. In the end, you’re seeking good for yourself! By sacrificing for others, you’re seeking good for yourself. This is a correct way of being self-seeking. [You may ask,] “I thought if I forget myself and my benefits, God will reward me. Now you’re telling me to be self-seeking?! Why should God love me if I am self-seeking?” If I want to give you a nice answer, I’ll tell you, “You don’t understand. You don’t understand that God loves us more than our mothers do.”
When we are self-seeking and are successful, the first one who rewards us is God Himself. When a child gets accepted for entering the university, his mother sheds tears of joy. “Mother, you haven’t been accepted. He’s been accepted.” She says, “Yes, he’s my child. He’s dear to me. His success is my success.” “Mother, you won’t be given anything. He’ll leave. She/he will get married and leave.” She answers, “That’s my child! I love to see his/her success.”
How does one get close to God? When you seek benefits for yourself, since God loves you very much, He gets happy and rewards you with Heaven. “Good job!” “Why do You reward me with Heaven? This was to my own benefit!” Shall I tell you the answer for you to be greatly affected by God’s intense magnanimity and affection?
God says, “I have created a creature by the name of ‘human being,’ and you have respected him. So I thank you. You have done Me a favor.” Where in the Qur’an does it say, “You have done Me a favor and I want to thank you”? Tell me the verse in the Qur’an.
It’s truly effective. “I’ve done You a favor?!” “Yes.” “Can anything else be a response to a favor but a favor?” [Qur’an 55:60] “You’ve done Me a favor, and I want to do you a favor.” “God, I’ve done You a favor?!” “Yes, you didn’t waste what I created. You did Me a favor as much as you could, and I will do you a favor as much as I can. You were able to do Me a favor this much. How much am I able to do you a favor? I’ll give you Heaven for an eternity.”
Each sin means you have forgotten and abandoned your own interests, enjoyments, likings and entertainments. When you seek benefits for yourself, since God loves you very much, He gets happy and rewards you with Heaven. “Good job!”

Sometimes we think that everything is just so perfect and there\'s is nothing that could ever go wrong; and to boot, we imagine that we\'re going to live for forever.
I mean who is going to die, right?
Still, there is \"A Time You Must Remember\" and that time is narrated to us in a tradition by the 10th divinely appointed Imam, Imam Ali ibn Muhammad al-Naqi al-Hadi (A).
What is that time that we must all remember and keep in mind?
What is the tradition of Imam Ali al-Naqi (A) regarding this matter?
And can anyone prevent us from dying, if the decreed time appointed by Allah has come about?
Finally, what should we prepared for that will happen after the aforementioned time that is destined for us sooner or later?
Sayyid Shahryar answers and explains in this One Minute Wisdom via a tradition from the 10th divinely appointed Imam, Imam Ali ibn Muhammad al-Naqi (A).
So Pay Attention And Be Prepared!

What is Faith | Agha Ali Reza Panahiyan | Farsi Sub English

==============================
What is faith? Faith is something that eliminates your useless entanglements and makes you ready to understand this point that the only thing worth living for is the excitement of getting close to God. How close have I become to Him?
Our likings and fears are keeping us busy. These don’t let us see our high goal in life, which is getting close to God. What does faith do? Faith wants to give us peace of mind so that we can abandon the games they have designed for our minds and our hearts’ entertainments. It keeps you safe in calamities and fears. It keeps you safe from the harms of the sweet points in life! Do you know what is one of the harms of this sweetness? When you experience this sweetness, you’ll be repelled by it afterwards. This is one of its harms.
[One might think,] “Having too much calm is not good either! If I’m too calm, I won’t work anymore. If I’m too calm, where will I experience excitements? People want a life with excitement. But by talking about faith, you are calming everything down. The excitement of marriage! Thinking about what will happen! The excitement of having a relationship. Excitement…”
But God says, “These excitements are not enough for you. I’m not against excitements. I want to give you a deeper excitement.” People pay money to be in an exciting atmosphere. One says, “If we don’t have such excitements, we’ll rot.” He’s right. One cannot live without excitements. But what does God say? He says, “I want to give you a deeper excitement.” Nothing will remain from these excitements for you afterwards, and you’ll feel upset. And they’re not useful for you. What happens? You became rich? You used all your money. What was added to you? And you’re bored by these too.
One says, “I’ve seen this show before and I’m tired of it. Couldn’t we go to a different show?” “I’ve seen this movie before.” “I’ve gone to this amusement park before.” So he goes to do something else. He is constantly trying different things. People say, “Islam is against us having excitements.” But Islam is against our wrong lifestyle. Islam has announced many relations are unlawful. Why? They have some sort of excitement, but Islam says, “Why do you waste yourself for such excitements? You won’t gain anything afterwards. Instead, have a serious excitement.
Pure Lady Fatimah Zahra (as) would pray in such a way that she experienced spiritual excitement and its effects could be seen in her appearance. Even if we have the best worldly life, we won’t have such excitements even once a year. The spiritual excitements are without harms, but those excitements have many harms. Spiritual excitements are useful, but those excitements are harmful. Spiritual excitements are eternal.
I confess to you that I don’t believe in a god whom when one goes to him for the second time, it feels like the first time again [in terms of enjoyment]. I don’t believe in such a god. God is not like this. It is said in the traditions that on the eve before Fridays, the Friends of God receive a new understanding of God. Their new understanding is such that when they look back, it’s as if they didn’t know God before. But such a thing doesn’t happen in our lives even once! See what excitement they experience.
What does having faith do? It takes away false excitements so that there is space for the main excitement. What is the name of that main excitement? “Getting close to God.” I want to get close to God. How should we communicate with God? The way is to have faith. Faith cuts your dependance on others. That is why the main dhikr of faith is«لا إله إلّا الله» [There is no god but Allah]. What does “Ilah [god]” mean? It means whoever you’re infatuated with.«لا إله إلّا الله» I’m not infatuated with anyone but God.
Faith gives a person this safety. Faith tells a person, “Forget the sweetness and bitterness of the world. You don’t want the small excitements from the sweetness of this world, nor do you want the useless fears. Let me give you safety.” Faith wants to give us peace of mind so that we can abandon the games they have designed for our minds and our hearts’ entertainments.

Our condolences to all the believers, all across the world, wherever they are, upon the holy months of Muharram and Safar.
This year, countless millions across the world once again proudly commemorated the mission of Imam Husayn ibn Ali (A) and most eagerly mourned over the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (A), and his family members and companions who accompanied his eminence into the divine hands of martyrdom as they stood up for Truth and Justice against the overwhelming forces of evil and falsehood.
Yet, what is another distortion in the narrative of Ashura and Karbala that can have disastrous consequences for the mission of Imam Husayn (A)?
And was the movement of Imam Sajjad (A), Imam Baqir (A), Imam Sadiq (A), and all the other Imams (A), a continuation of the movement of Imam Husayn (A)?
What does Shaheed Murtaza Mutahhari say is a direct danger and consequence of considering the event of Ashura to be a one-time exceptional instance?
What is the wrong notion of Taqiyya and what are its consequences?
And what is the correct notion of Taqiyya?
Are we allowed to let Islam be destroyed in order to protect and preserve our wealth, property, families, and even our lives?
What has been and still is one of the primary historic missions of the Shias of Imam Husayn (A)?
What do the present-day mourning processions conducted in places of the world such as Nigeria, Qatif, Yemen, Bahrain, and Kashmir teach us?
Finally, what are the dangers of considering Ashura to simply be a time-constrained exceptional instance in the history of the Muslims?
In order to answer these questions and more, we humbly invited Sayyid Muhammad Hashemi from the Islamic Republic of Iran to answer for us, \\\"Was Ashura A Time-Constrained Exceptional Instance?\\\"

Our condolences to the believers all across the world upon these days of Muharram and the commemoration of the mission and martyrdom of the Master of Martyrs, Imam Husayn (A).
Is creativity necessary when it comes to reciting and performing mourning elegies for Imam Husayn (A)?
Is there something wrong with being creative when it comes to mourning elegies for Imam Husayn (A)?
And to what extent can one bring creativity to the mourning elegies of Imam Husayn (A)?
Finally, what must be preserved when it comes to creativity and innovativeness in the mourning elegies of Imam Husayn (A)?
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei, speaks about the things to keep in mind when bringing innovation and creativity into writing/performing elegies.
We Are The Nation of Martyrdom.

What has kept the religion of Islam alive?
And what did Imam Kadhim (A) do to preserve it?
Why was Imam Kadhim (A) imprisoned?
What is Taqiyyah? And where is it applicable?
Furthermore, what are the consequences of Taqiyyah when done at the wrong time?
And finally, is the religion of Islam a religion of rituals or one that teaches us to step into the arena when required?
Sayyid Hashim al-Haydari speaks of the hypocrisy and false Taqiyyah of the people in the time of Imam Kadhim (A) and its deadly consequences.

What was considered a virtue for Islamic scholars in the past?
Who created and promoted this notion and what was the hidden agenda behind it?
And what would happen with the one who was labelled ‘political’ in those times?
Besides, does Islam promote being apolitical or is politics a part of Islam?
What do the lives of the Holy Prophet – peace be upon him – and Imam Ali (A) say about this?
Additionally , did the Prophet (S) just sit in a corner of a mosque and talk about Islam or did he get involved in politics and form a government?
And did Imam Ali (A) also just stick to his prayer mat or did he run an Islamic government?
Furthermore, what were one of the last words of the holy Prophet (S) in this regard?
And finally, as followers of Imam Ali (A) and Imam Husayn (A) –who stepped into the arena and drew the sword when required – what should we do in today’s times?
The father of the Islamic Revolution – Imam Ruhollah Khomeini – talks about the false dichotomy created between Islam and politics and proves it wrong by using examples from the lives of the Holy Prophet (S) and Imam Ali (A).

==============================
Someone says, “I want to move away from our religious neighborhood. I’ll move to a nonreligious neighborhood where no one cares about what others do. When you get up in the morning, neighbors won’t talk about whether you pray. Here, our neighbor came and said, ‘Your light isn’t on in the mornings. Don’t you pray?!’ ‘That doesn’t have anything to do with you! Maybe we pray in the dark.’ Everyone is judging each other. In our city, everyone expects others. Everyone is attacking each other based on their imaginations.”
One of the factors that causes people to become infatuated with western culture is this. When they go to western countries, they see what we are discussing in these sessions. This is called “acknowledging people’s differences.” They see this in the west. They see this in the culture of western people. Acknowledging people’s differences brings calm. They say, “I love this calmness.” Why? Actually, you should go to a place where everyone cares about you and helps you! This is being sophisticated, not what you see in western culture where people don’t care about each other due to their selfishness. But a religious person isn’t selfish. He cares due to his wanting to serve people and his being affectionate and kind! Why shouldn’t he care about others?
Our religion has said this too. Why should you search for this in the west? Why should you become infatuated with western culture, my dear? It’s said that if you see a wrong behavior, think positively about the person as much as is possible. For example, “I saw this husband and wife fighting and cursing each other.” Say, “They were practicing to see if they can curse someone! They were joking!” “No, he was really angry! He broke a glass too.” [Say,] “He was acting to see if he knows how to act. The husband and wife wanted to see if they are able to break a glass like in films. It was for fun. What’s wrong with that?!”
A tradition says, “A believer thinks good thoughts about others as much as is possible.” If it wasn’t possible to think good about him, you shouldn’t look at him as a sinner the next morning. Why? He certainly repented last night. He had time until morning. He sinned yesterday. You shouldn’t judge him today. We have some rules in our religion, which bring calmness more than what exists in the west. We are more western than western people [in these cases]! No one should pry into what others do. No one should make a bad judgement about others. No one should backbite. No one should be suspicious about others. A believer should think good thoughts about others. If a believer acts according to his beliefs, his behavior is even more sophisticated than theirs is!
Some people told Imam Khomeini, “We should fire all the judges who were working during Shah’s time.” Imam Khomeini said, “No, why do you want to fire them?” They said, “As a rule, they aren’t believers!” Imam Khomeini said, “According to which rule?” Someone wanted to say something to finish it up. A judge should be just. Just [in terms of religion] means he has to be pious and not do sins openly. So he said, “Some of these judges shave their beards and you have forbidden this.” Imam Khomeini immediately responded, “I say it’s forbidden. Maybe there is another Religious Authority who says it’s not forbidden.”
This is being sophisticated. Let me give you a higher example. A rich man went from Qazvin to Najaf Ashraf to give his Khoms tax to Imam Khomeini. He related, “I wanted to give my Khoms and he asked me, ‘Is this your yearly Khoms?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Who were you giving it to before?’” Imam Khomeini guessed that he had been giving his Khoms tax to another Religious Authority and had recently changed. The man responded, “I used to give it to Mr. …” who wasn’t very well-known. Imam Khomeini said, “Perhaps he has plans about how to use your Khoms and wants to give it to the seminary students. Or he is doing a cultural activity and is counting on receiving your Khoms every year. If you don’t give your Khoms to him this year, it will harm his plans. Give your Khoms to that same person this year too.”
This is being sophisticated, not what you see in western culture where people don’t care about each other due to their selfishness. But a religious person isn’t selfish. He cares due to his wanting to serve people and his being affectionate and kind! Why shouldn’t he care about others?
A person says, “I’m more comfortable there because no one cares what I do.” Why? Actually, you should go to a place where everyone cares about you and helps you! This is what will captivate the west. It’s the culture of religion. The world is waiting to see this. You see a small example of this in Arbaeen.

We are at the end of one century and the start of a new century based on the Hijri solar calendar. Even if it wasn’t the beginning of a new century the changes in the world show that a long period of history has finished and the state of the world is changing.
Maybe we couldn’t have said this eight months ago. We couldn’t have said it last year. But now, with the events that we are witnessing in the world in recent months and in the period that we are in, everyone agrees that we are at a turn in history, an expression used by the dear Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
The last century can be called the century of the rise and fall of Western civilization. When I was a teenager, about fifty years ago, people used to say that we are at the end of the world. But this statement was retracted by the world\\\'s most prominent thinkers some time ago. Fukuyama said, “I was wrong when I said the end of history is liberal democracy. We don’t know where the end of history is because liberal democracy hasn’t been successful.”
What do you predict for this coming century? What do you suggest for its name? I have a suggestion for the name of this century. The coming century is bringing a civilization that will replace Western civilization. It will be an alternative civilization to Western civilization, according to many thinkers. Of course, they say this quietly and don’t announce it frequently on TV.
The alternative civilization will be the \\\"new Islamic civilization.\\\" The future civilization will be a \\\"Mahdavi [Imam Mahdi] civilization.\\\" Why am I saying this? Because no one in the world has any plans for the future! There is no thinker in the world to say that the future will be determined by socialism, or by liberal democracy, or to say the future will be determined by a certain lifestyle.
Yes, in terms of technology, they say technology will advance a lot! Yes, it is said that the world’s governments will be saved from dictatorial rulers. Yes, everyone is saying that a new chaos is being created in the world. Everyone says these things. But can the United Nations ensure order in the world? No. The previous century was the century of the rise and fall of Western civilization. The next century is the century of the new Islamic civilization.
It has been narrated from Imam Muhammad Baqir (as), “Our government will be the last government. Because after our government has been established, has succeeded and that great civilization ‘has been raised by God above all religions’ [Qur’an 61:9], no one will say, ‘If I had been in charge, I would have done that too.’” According to Imam Baqir (as), when that government is established no one will have anything else to say. A theoretical vacuum will have existed.
There is no voice in the universe talking about the future of the world for us to evaluate it to see if it is right or wrong! No one in the world says that in the future everyone will go toward Marxism, or that everyone will go toward a certain religion. Except for us. We are the only ones talking about the future! For forty years, we have been answering in religious forums. We have answered doubts. We have answered false claims. There is no longer a false claim in the world for us to answer! No one even has a claim for the future.
Only these minarets and mosques of yours talk about the future. Only you have hope for the future! This is a big celebration itself. And our community must be the one to explain the Mahdavi civilization. Every mosque, gathering, class or book that does not talk about the Mahdavi future of the world, has reduced its own value to nearly zero. Tell me about the future! What will the future be like?

How does Satan deceive people when it comes to our love for Allah?
What is wrong with our perception?
Why has Allah made Namaz obligatory, and supplications, Duas, and Dhikr to be highly recommended?
Finally, is there a point where one can say that they are at the peak of loving Allah?
The late Ayatollah Misbah-Yazdi (R) provides us with a short, but profound lesson on the basics of loving Allah.

Who was the Messenger of Allah a mercy for?
What did the Messenger of Allah bring for the common masses and all of humanity?
Finally, what are the shackles that the Messenger of Allah tried to free the people from?
Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei provides us with a short interpretation of the following verse of the Holy Quran.
Chapter 7 (al-A’raf), Verse 157:
“Those who follow (obey) the Messenger [of Allah], the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned (written) in the Torah and the Gospel with them, [and] who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them from what is wrong, and makes lawful for them the things that are pure and prohibits for them the things that are impure, and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So, those who believe in him, honor him, support him, and follow the light which has been sent down with him – those are the successful ones.”

Talking Properly: Politeness or Honesty?
“Pious people have superior virtues. Their words are proper.” [Imam Ali (as), The Muttaqin Sermon] At the top of the list of moral virtues, which Imam Ali (as) lists for pious people, are controlling one’s tongue and speaking correctly.
“Pious people have superior virtues. Their words are proper.” “Their words are proper” tells us a few things. Being proper does not mean being honest. You can talk honestly and ruin a nation. You can talk honestly and ruin a person. Backbiting is saying something that is true. [One says,] “I’m saying the truth [about him].” You are wrong to say this truth! You shouldn’t say all true things. You shouldn’t talk about a person’s fault when he is absent. Don’t say that. It is even said that when a person backbites you should defend the one who is absent. You shouldn’t say all truths. Proper doesn’t mean honesty. Talking properly is different from talking honestly.
Sometimes people talk honestly in order to relieve themselves, but they shouldn’t. They tell others about their sufferings, but they shouldn’t. People sometimes talk honestly and tell others about the good deeds they have done, and that is hypocrisy. People sometimes talk honestly and show their hatred toward others. I can tell you numerous examples of honest words that are not “proper.”
But I have to tell you one thing. Speaking the truth, in any area, reduces a person’s mental pressures. When you tell other people’s secrets, you release yourself. When you talk about your own pains, you release yourself. When you talk about your hatred, you release yourself.
It’s interesting that some people say any truth and say, “My conscience is at ease this way.” That is not their conscious. They have relieved themselves in a way that God didn’t want. Releasing yourself like this ruins you and makes you cheap. Not all ways of finding ease are good. In the past, some psychologists used to say that if a person’s father has passed away and he has inherited money, since an obstacle has been removed from his life, why should he act like he is upset? He can easily go, have fun and say that he’s happy.
Such a society will gradually lose its modesty. Do you know what happens when there is no modesty? When there is no modesty and people relieve themselves by talking honestly, they become weak. When you control your honesty due to your modesty and other boundaries, you will feel a pressure. This pressure makes a person grow and strengthens him. For example, when one gets angry, he shouldn’t curse. This brings a pressure. [One says,] “I honestly ask God to make you wretched! I wish you didn’t exist on this earth!” You should have controlled this! The result of some kinds of honesty is weakness. This pressure makes a person grow. It strengthens him.
Should we push children to be honest or polite? Politeness. What is politeness? It’s basically modesty. Politeness tells a person what he shouldn’t say. Is politeness more valuable or honesty? If you don’t attack me, I’ll say politeness. A child likes to say many things honestly. But you should tell him, “You should observe these rules when you talk. This is politeness.”
“Pious people have superior virtues. Their words are proper.”

[Friday Sermon] The 3 Alifs to Live By | How to Approach Our Desires -...

- Importance of reminding ourselves of the mission of Imam Hussain (a.s).
- In a will to his brother, Muhammad Hanafia, Imam Hussain (a.s) explains the purpose of his actions in 4 points:
-- He negates wrong motives towards himself knowing that people would try to portray him as having ulterior motives.
-- He then expresses what his purpose is, to seek reformation in the community of his grandfather.
-- He explains the method of the Islamic law that he is using: bidding people to do good and forbidding them from evil.
-- And lastly he confirms that what he is doing is continuing the path of his grand father and his father.
- Reform should be an ongoing process at an individual and collective level.
- Examples of reformation on a personal level: focusing on improving our prayers, reflections of our fasts, giving charity, reflection on our means of livelihood etc..
- Examples of reformation on a social level by taking lessons from Karbala: brotherhood and unity of fellow Muslims in spite of the diversity in race, colour, language and ethnic background, outlook towards Muslim community on a global level, outlook towards non-Muslim etc..
- Importance of responding to Imam Hussain’s(a.s) call by submitting our heart, ears, mind, eyes, opinions and desires to him.
- When our heart is longing for something that is not permissible then make the choice that Imam Hussain(a.s)would make.
- We are surrounded by different circles around us.
- Inner circle are the Shias of the Ahlulbayt.
- Bigger circle around it, is the Muslim community.
- Outer bigger circle is the humanity at large.
- 3 Alif to keep in mind when interacting which each circle of groups:
-- Ithaar which means to sacrifice. For the inner circle the expectation is to have willingness to sacrifice for one another.
-- Infaaq which means to be charitable. This needs to be applied towards the Muslim community at large.
-- Insaaf which means to be just. The minimum requirement towards the humanity at large is to be just towards them. That doesn’t mean you don’t need to be charitable towards them either.
- Ilm-ul Ghayb (knowledge of the unseen) is only given to the chosen ones by the grace of Allah.(s.w.t).
- Narration of the story of the thirst of Hur and his army to show that Imam Hussain(a.s) had ilm-e ghayb.
- Imam Hussain(a.s) did not ask Hur if he had come as a supporter or an enemy. He saw they were thirsty and he quenched their thirst. That’s called humanity. Yet he was denied water in Karbala.
- He used his ilm-e ghayb in order to guide others but he would never use it for his own benefit. That was his test and trial. He knew water would be stopped yet he did not fill extra water for his own self.
- He personally used less water then others. On the day of Ashura, the most thirsty person was Imam Hussain (a.s).
- We need to reflect and see how we treat one another.
- Importance for volunteers to realize that those who come for the commemoration are the guests of Imam Hussain(a.s) and the volunteer is the host on behalf of Imam Hussain(a.s). So they should treat the guests well.
- It’s the kindness that Imam Hussain (a.s) showed towards them, that eventually brought back Hur to Imam’s camp and he then attained martyrdom.

[ Friday Khutba] Equality of Man in Islam; The Message of Hajj - Maulana...

- Importance of pondering over why Allah(s.w.t) wants us to go all the way to Makkah for hajj.
- Explanation of Aayat 97 of Surah Aale Imran where Allah(s.w.t) mentions how it is a duty for a Muslim to go for hajj if he has the ability to do so.
- Once the Kaaba’s walls were erected, Allah(s.w.t) asked Prophet Ibrahim to call people for hajj so that they could witness the benefits for themselves.
- There are many benefits when we go for Hajj.
- Getting to network and meet other business traders from around the world.
- The most important benefits are the spiritual and social dimensions of Hajj.
- Hajj is a powerful way of recognizing who we are.
- We shed away all the artificial identities that we have whether it applies to our clothing or political and economic status.
- Everyone is dressed in 2 pieces of Ehram (white cloth) which is a dress that does not belong to any other nation.
- Realizing that no matter what race, colour, ethnicity background or status in society we come from, we are all just servants of Allah(s.w.t) and nothing else.
- Islam does not say that you should not love people of your own tribe, culture or language. Infact, that is part of our innate nature.
- Islam is against discrimination and prejudice amongst the believers on the basis of race, colour, culture or language.
- According to the 4th Imam we will be accountable in the eyes of Allah (s.w.t) when we start preferring our own kind even if they are evil over the righteous ones from another tribe.
- “Asabiya” (discrimanation/bias) is when you support your own people even if they are unjust and wrong.
- Mention of the words of Malcom X, on the impact that hajj had on him from a letter that he wrote to his wife.
- Islam is a religion that is colour-blind and is our identity as part of a global Ummah (nation).
- Inspite of millions of Muslims going for hajj, we don’t see any changes when it comes to unity and equality amongst believers.
- Example of the way the rich gulf state treats Muslims from other nations.
- This attitude still present amongst those known as the custodians of the “haramayn”.
- “Mawali” is the plural of the word “mawla” which means slave or client.
- In the pre Islamic era, a foreigner would not have security for himself, his life and his property unless he would be affiliated with a local tribe. He would be a “mawla” of the tribe.
- Islam abolished this but it was later revived again. Only the school of the Ahlulbayt opposed this concept.
- The “mawalis” were attracted to the Ahlulbayt because they did not differentiate between Arab or non Arab, master or slave and rich or poor.
- Narration of a story from the life of Imam Ali Raza (a.s) of when he asked all the workers and slaves to join him and eat dinner together.
- Mention of all the Imams whose mothers were from different parts of the world. 4 of them being from the African continent.
- Molana Sayyid Saeed Akhtar Rizvi was the pioneer in tabligh among the African people.
- Today Bilal Muslim mission is the pride of the community while it was not the case in the early days.

What are you searching for in this world? Some of the pertinent and beautiful reminders in this clip will wake us up if we contemplate a little bit on what is being said. Allah has not created this world as a permanent abode- if our life objectives are to seek comfort and happiness, then perhaps we have been walking in the wrong direction. By reflecting on the lifestyle of the great scholars of the modern world, such as Imam Khomeini, Imam Khamenei and others, we will see that the primary objectives of their lives were not to seek out comfort, but to strive against their nafs (selves).
