New documentary titled \"Eyes Wide Open\" covering the journey of Iranian Shiite and Sunni clerics to South Lebanon. In their journey they meet influential figures and visit various religious locations. A rare meeting between the clerics and Sheik Hassan Nasrallah will also be translated shortly. In this segment, the religious scholars visit the sister of Imam Musa al-Sadr, Rabab Sadr.
Sayyid Musá a?-?adr (1929-disappeared in 1978) (Arabic: ????? ???? ??????, Persian: ???? ???? ???, also transliterated Musa-ye Sader, Moussa Sadr and many other variants), was an Iranian-born Lebanese philosopher and a prominent Shiah religious leader who spent many years of his life in Lebanon as a religious and political leader.
Musá a?-?adr was born in Qom, Iran in 1929 to the prominent Lebanese a?-?adr family of theologians. His father was Ayatollah ?adr ad-Din a?-?adr, originally from Tyre. Grand Ayatollah Mu?ammad Baqir a?-?adr is a distant cousin.
He is said to have
worked tirelessly to improve the lot of his community - to give them a voice, to protect them from the ravages of war and intercommunal strife ...
A?-?adr was widely seen as a moderate, demanding that the Maronite Christians relinquish some of their power but pursuing ecumenism and peaceful relations between the groups. He was a vocal opponent of Israel but also attacked the PLO for endangering Lebanese civilians with their attacks.
In 1974 he founded the Movement of the Disinherited to press for better economic and social conditions for the Shiah. He established a number of schools and medical clinics throughout southern Lebanon, many of which are still in operation today.
In August 1978, al-Sadr and two companions departed for Libya to meet with government officials. The three were never heard of again. It is widely believed that the Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi ordered a?-?adr\'s killing, but the motivation is unknown. Libya has consistently denied responsibility, claiming that a?-?adr and his companions left Libya for Italy. Some others have reported that he remains secretly in jail in Libya. A?-?adr\'s disappearance continues to be a major dispute between Lebanon and Libya. Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri claimed that the Libyan regime, and particularly the Libyan leader, were responsible for the disappearance of Imam Musa Sadr, London-based Asharq Al-Awsat, a Saudi-run pan-Arab daily reported on 27 August 2006.
According to Iranian General Mansour Qadar, the head of Syrian security, Rifaat al-Asad, told the Iranian ambassador to Syria that Gaddafi was planning to kill a?-?adr. On August 27, 2008, Gaddafi was indicted by the government of Lebanon for al-Sadr\'s disappearance. [8]

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah\\\\\\\'s Speech on July 2, 2011, in which he addressed the recent STL Indictment, which issued arrest warrants for four Hezbollah members. Sayed Nasrallah said that this indictment is not unexpected; in fact, according to Sayed Nasrallah, it was implied shortly after July 2006 in the French \\\\\\\"Le Figaro\\\\\\\", and later on in \\\\\\\"Der Spiegel\\\\\\\". Sayed Nasrallah discussed the fact that the STL did not even bother to question Israel or even put it on the suspects list despite the fact that much of the present evidence (circumstantial and other) clearly pointed to Israel, such as the surveillance footage showed by Hezbollah at an earlier date.
A \\\\\\\"leaked\\\\\\\" document was shown during the current speech showing that 97 Computer Monitors which where mysteriously transferred to Israel. Sayed Nasrallah then offered evidence linking the STL with the CIA/Israel, showing that many members of the STL where in fact very closely connected with the CIA. Video footage clearly shows STL deputy chief investigator Gerhard Lehmann accepting a bribe. To end the speech, Sayed Hassan addressed the people who cherish the Resistance and fear what is to come. He reassured people that the Indictment was only natural, and the Hezbollah and the Resistance movement are doing well before and after the Indictment. Sayed Nasrallah told his followers not to fear over the fate of the Resistance.

Marwa Sherbini is being hailed as the shahida, or martyr, of the Hijab
The body of a Muslim woman, killed in a German courtroom by a man convicted of insulting her religion, has been taken back to her native Egypt for burial.
Dr. Marwa Sherbini was three-months pregnant when she was murdered in court by her molester. Her murder has sparked off angry protests around the Muslim world.
Dr. Marwa Sherbini, 31, was stabbed 18 times by Axel W, who is now under arrest in Dresden for suspected murder.
Husband Elwi Okaz is also in a critical condition in hospital, after being injured as he tried to save his wife.
Ms Sherbini had sued her killer after he called her a "terrorist" because of her headscarf.
The case has attracted much attention in Egypt and the Muslim world.
German prosecutors have said the 28-year-old attacker, identified only as Axel W, was driven by a deep hatred of foreigners and Muslims.
'Martyr'
Medics were unable to save Ms Sherbini who was three months pregnant with her second child. Her three-year-old son was with the family in court when she was killed.
Egypt funeral for stabbing victim
Egyptian woman killed in a knife attack in a Dresden courtroom is laid
Axel W and Ms Sherbini and family were in court for his appeal against a fine of 750 euros ($1,050) for insulting her in 2008, apparently because she was wearing the Muslim headscarf or Hijab.
Newspapers in Egypt have expressed outrage at the case, asking how it was allowed to happen and dubbing Ms Sherbini "the martyr of the Hijab".
Senior Egyptian officials and German diplomatic staff attended the funeral in Alexandria along with hundreds of mourners.
Media reports say Mr Okaz was injured both by the attacker and when a policeman opened fire in the courtroom.

"People are looking for victims and Muslims are sometimes seen as a viable option"
Sulaiman Wilms,
European Muslim Union
For eight long minutes, the 28-year old German man of Russian origins continued to stab Marwa Sherbini. For eight long minutes, she suffered the stabs in full view of the panel of judges inside the Dresden courtroom. When the German police finally arrived on the scene, they shot her husband who was desperately trying to save her. The image of middle-easterners as potential terrorists, an image propagated by the media for years now, led them to the wrong conclusion that Elwy Okaz, genetic researcher at Max Planck Institute, must have been the perpetrator of the violence.
Marwa Sherbini’s Four-Year Old Son Watched his Mother Being Butchered
Four-year old Mustapha was witness to the massacre of his mother and the injury of his father. After the incident, he was left in the custody of German Authorities until his aunt arrived to take him home back to Egypt, suffering from severe shock. He will need rehabilitation to be able to cope with the trauma he experienced. In all probability, the tragedy will leave a permanent psychological scar on his whole life.
Marwa’s Body Arrived in Egypt
Marwa Sherbini probably never imagined that this was how she would return home after her years with her husband in Germany. Hosts of grieving mourners stood at 8pm on 5th July, 2009, as the body of the Egyptian pharmacist arrived at Cairo Airport. The dominant feeling was one of deep anger. Her funeral in her native city of Alexandria the following afternoon was marked by masses of people who probably never knew her. Among the mourners were young students from her old school, the EGC, who came to pay their last respects to her
Media Silence Regarding the Murder of the Muslim Woman in the Courtroom
The official stand of the German authorities has been one of muted regret. European media in general, and German media in particular, gave the brutal attack no prominence at all, regarding it as an isolated incident and presenting the attacker as a man who is mentally disturbed. The question that immediately comes to mind is where Marwa Sherbini went wrong. She sought justice and had no doubt in her mind that she would get it. The cruel irony was that she was murdered in the very place that should have protected her and afforded her the highest degree of safety and justice. She trusted the propaganda that Europe was a place of freedom and equality for all, regardless of gender, race or religious persuasion. She did not realize that in Europe some human beings are more equal than others. She had paid for her misconception with her very life.

Egypt cleric seeks stiff penalty for Sherbini killer
Tantawi says man who killed 'veil martyr' in Germany should receive maximum punishment.
ALEXANDRIA - A man who stabbed a pregnant Egyptian woman to death in Germany should be punished to the utmost extent of the law, Egypt's top cleric said on Monday as the woman was buried in her hometown.
"The man who killed Marwa Sherbini, the Egyptian citizen in Germany, and wounded her husband Elwi Ali Okaz should receive the maximum punishment," Grand Imam Sheikh Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi told the official MENA agency.
"The killer is a terrorist who should receive severe punishment for what he has done, something that contradicts all the values of humanity, decency and religion," he said.
Sherbini, 32, was killed in a court in the northern German city of Dresden on Wednesday shortly before she was to give evidence in an appeal lodged by her attacker.
The 28-year-old attacker, identified only as Axel W. had been convicted and fined after calling her a "terrorist" for wearing the Islamic headscarf.
According to the Egyptian press, Sherbini was three months pregnant when she was killed. She was laid to rest in her hometown of Alexandria in northern Egypt on Monday.
Her husband, a researcher in genetic engineering who was reportedly shot by German police while trying to save his wife, is still in critical condition in hospital having also been stabbed by the assailant.
Tantawi told MENA he hoped the killing of Sherbini, whom he described as a "martyr," would not negatively affect the dialogue between the West and Islam because it was "an isolated event."

Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah(HA) has warned that the movement will strike Israel's infrastructure, including its airports and refineries, in the event of any Israeli attack on Lebanon.
During an address commemorating the assassination of three Hizbullah leaders by Israel, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah(HA) vowed to bomb Israel's Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv should the regime hit Beirut's Martyr Rafiq al-Hariri International Airport in any future war.
"If you hit Martyr Rafiq al-Hariri international airport in Beirut, we will hit Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv," he said via a live video link in Beirut's southern suburbs on Tuesday.
"If you hit our ports, we will bomb your ports, and if you hit our oil refineries, we will bomb your oil refineries," he added.
He also threatened that should Israel bomb Lebanon's refineries, factories or power plants, the movement would retaliate with all its might.

Sayed Moustafa Qazwini speech in Los Angeles #united4humanityLA. Mustafa Qazwini is one of the many American subservient \"scholars\" in America. It is shameful to see him wearing the dress of Prophet Muhammad (S) who fought and opposed the oppressors fearlessly. America is the biggest terrorist in the world today. How can he praise America..? A country that symbolizes oppression today, a country where imperialism is housed today, a country where capitalism is housed today, a country that illegally sucks up the world resources, steals, murders, terrorizes other sovereign nations, threatens other nations, loot their resources and controls them. If someone tries to play in the grey area of separating America as a country from the American hegemonic government, he is simply fooling himself and some other simple minded people. Last when I visited the Qazwini\'s \"Islamic\" center in Dearborn, MI, there were pictures of Bush and Clinton hanging on the wall with an American flag. In other words, they know what they are doing!
On 23 June 2017 in a sermon delivered in Orange County, California, Al-Qazwini declared that ISIS was supported by Israeli intelligence,[2] shortly after a Wall Street Journal investigative article detailed secret Israeli aid to various Syrian rebel groups,[3][4][5] which was confirmed by Israeli authorities,[6] including as far back as 2014.[7] Shortly thereafter, describing unreliable information he had received from Iraqi political and military sources, he publicly retracted the statement and apologized for hurting the sentiments of his Jewish friends and the Jewish community.[8]

Yemen's Houthi fighters have accused Saudi Arabia of helping the Yemeni army in its deadly offensive against them in the north-western province of Saada.
Zaidi Shia fighters, known as Houthis, issued a statement on Friday saying that at least two Saudi warplanes have bombed their positions in the al-Malahid district.
The fighters' statement has been dismissed by the Yemeni army as a baseless allegation.
Fighting between Yemeni troops backed by fighter aircraft and Shia fighters has killed dozens, mostly fighters, since the government launched a wide offensive against Shia tribes earlier in the month.
The Shia fighters have been engaged in on and off fighting with Yemen's army since 2004.
Press TV correspondent in Yemen, Akram Al-Hindi, says the military's campaign against Houthi fighters is expected to intensify in the coming days -- despite the growing civilian death toll.
"We have heard that there was a short truce between the government and the Houthi fighters but shortly after that the fighting erupted again," Al-Hindi said.
"The treaty which was signed based on Qatar agreement and Doha agreement has been declared dead from the Yemeni government side," he added.
According to the correspondent, the Houthi fighters claim that the government is intensifying its military offences and this calls for the end of the truce between the two sides.
"This shows that the violence will continue," Al-Hindi concluded.
The Houthis say they are defending themselves against religious oppression. The government says it is fighting an armed insurgency seeking to reinstate imamate rule, which ended in a 1962 coup.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, an estimated 119,000 people from the northwest Yemeni town of Saada are currently displaced.

Insight VS Deception | Sayyid Hashim al-Haidari
Have you ever paused to question why the members of Imam Ali\\\'s (A) army collapsed and became Khawarij? Or why the followers of Imam Husayn (A), abandoned him shortly before the battle of Karbala? Or why terrorist groups like ISIS, shout the name of Allah (SWT) seconds before detonating in a crowd of innocent people? How is it possible that a Muslim can worship Allah (SWT) one moment, and deviate the next? What do such people have in common? What do they lack? What stopped them from serving the Imams of their time? Is it that which is preventing us from hastening the reappearance of our Imam (AJTF)?! Sayyid Hashim Haidari reveals to us what this significant nature is, and the dangers of lacking it..

Brief segment of the sermon delivered recently by prominent religious scholar Ayatollah Sheikh Hussein Al-Radhi and that resulted in his arrest by the Saudi authorities. The sermon was delivered in one of the mosques in the Ahsaa region in Eastern Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Al-Radhi called on the Saudi government to let Hezbollah and the other countries of the region be, and to focus instead on national reform.
Shortly after this sermon was delivered, Sheikh AlRadhi was arrested in the town of Al-Rumailah. Sheikh AlRadhi is known for his criticism of the Saudi role in destabilizing the region. He often denounced the Saudi regime’s crimes in Yemen, and he demanded that Saudi troops be withdrawn from Bahrain. Sheikh AlRadhi was also one of the few scholars who dared to condemn the horrendous crime of executing Sheikh Nimr AlNimr along with several other activists earlier this year.

The incident came shortly after the prayers begun at a mosque in the town of Jamrud in Khyber tribal region. About 100 Sunni brothers were also injured in the bombing. Between 250 and 300 people were in the mosque and the wounded were taken to a local hospital in Jamrud and another hospital in Peshawar. Police, paramilitary forces and government officials were among the congregation at the mosque, some 30 km (20 miles) from the Afghan border. The incident was the deadliest in Pakistan since last September, when 60 people died in a suicide truck bomb attack at the five-star Marriott Hotel in Islamabad. The Friday attack came hours before US President Barack Obama was to announce new plans for combating Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Obama is expected to send 4,000 extra troops to Afghanistan in addition to the 17,000 troops already deployed to the war-torn country. ***May Imam of our time reappear soon***

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah - Ashura 1442 / 2020 Speech (English...
Hezbollah’s secretary-general says the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s move earlier this month to normalize relations with Israel was a...
Hezbollah’s secretary-general says the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s move earlier this month to normalize relations with Israel was a “free-of-charge service” provided by Abu Dhabi to the politically-embattled officials in Israel and the United States.
“The Emirates’ move was service given free of charge to Donald Trump, the president of the United States, and Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of the Zionist regime,” Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said during his annual address marking Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PBUH).
Trump announced on August 13, 2020 that the UAE and Israel had agreed to normalize ties.
The agreement was met with uniform condemnation on the Arab street.
It came in the middle of near-daily mass rallies by Israeli people demanding Netanyahu’s resignation over corruption and incompetence. It also coincided with widespread unrest in the United States over racial discrimination and brutality by police.
When the deal was announced, Israel was openly speaking of plans to annex the occupied West Bank and the Jordan Valley. Emirati officials claimed Tel Aviv had agreed to suspend those plans in return for the normalization of ties.
But shortly after the deal was made public, Netanyahu denied that those plans had been frozen.
Nasrallah said Netanyahu did not bother to help save the face of Emirati officials, coming out quickly to deny the suspension of the annexation plans.
Netanyahu, Nasrallah added, also belied an Emirati claim that Tel Aviv would provide Abu Dhabi with drones as part of the deal.
Hezbollah ‘will never recognize Israel, victory matter of time’
Nasrallah said any attempt toward the recognition of the Israeli regime by any party was condemned.
He reasserted Hezbollah’s position of never recognizing the Israeli regime.
The Hezbollah chief said the resistance front’s victory was “only a matter of time.”
‘Saudi Arabia, UAE only US instruments in Yemen war’
Nasrallah called the Saudi-led war on Yemen an essentially “US-led” war.
He said Washington was only using Saudi Arabia and the UAE as “instruments” in the war, which has killed tens of thousands of Yemenis and pushed Yemen close to the brink of famine.
Meanwhile, in another speech on Saturday, Hezbollah’s secretary-general said Arab and Western embassies in Lebanon were spending “millions” of dollars on a media war targeting the Lebanese resistance movement.
The foreign embassies pay the hefty sums to “media outlets to target Hezbollah by spreading false news and lies,” Lebanese news website al-Ahed quoted Nasrallah as saying.
“They are paying money in exchange for spewing venom,” Nasrallah said. “They have gone beyond the realms of lying, [going as far as] provocation, insults, and slurs against Hezbollah.”
He said the smear campaign of such proportions against the group was unprecedented.
The Hezbollah chief said the media war was being directed from a command center that sometimes fed the same misinformation to all of its subsidiary news outlets.
Hezbollah has resisted pressure targeting Lebanon by Israel and its biggest ally, the United States. In the 2000s, it forced the Israeli military to retreat during two wars on Lebanon.
Nasrallah said the propaganda campaign was aimed at demoralizing the group and making it abandon the causes for which it has been making many sacrifices.
He said, however, that “neither intimidation nor murder can scare us.”

Historical events are at times extremely influential in transforming human thought, politics and the structure of society. One of such historical events in Islam was Qadir event which happened in 632 AD.
Shortly before his death prophet Muhammad undertook a farewell pilgrimage. It has been recorded by numerous historians that on their return journey, he commanded all the Muslims to gather so that he may recite for them a crucial sermon. Then the prophet declared Imam Ali\'s guardianship as his own. He said: Whoever I am the master of; this Ali is the master of.
Although Imam Ali, peace be upon him, is the first Imam for Shia Muslims, the Qadir event is indeed a factor for unity among Shia and Sunni Muslims. On such occasion, an international congress has been held in Iran to study more about Qadir.
Dozens of scholars from Iran and other countries attended the congress presenting articles on different aspects of Qadir event.
Unlike a false belief which considers Qadir as the origin of disunity between Shias and Sunnis, Qadir promotes unity among Muslims.
Religious experts say once Qadir is explained to all, Muslim unity will be achieved because Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) recommended Muslims on Qadir day to obey both Qur\'an and his holy household.

ran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (P5+1) are set to start their second session of multifaceted talks in the Russian capital Moscow shortly.
The two sides launched the new round of talks in Moscow yesterday. The two-day negotiations follow the previous talks held in Iraq and Turkey.
Iran and the P5+1 held three sessions of plenary talks in Baghdad in May after an earlier round of negotiations in the Turkish city of Istanbul in mid-April.
Press TV has conducted an interview with James H. Fetzer, an American philosopher and political commentator, to further explore the issue.

Amid the massive turnout of voters in Friday\'s elections, Iranian presidential candidates have joined the rest of the nation in casting their ballots. Shortly after the polls opened, independent candidate Mohammad Gharazi showed up at a polling station in southeast Tehran and cast his vote. Describing June 14 as a national day, Gharazi said the real winner of the elections is the Iranian people and stressed that whoever wins the race bears a great responsibility.
Presidential candidate Hassan Rohani also cast his ballot on Friday morning. He urged all Iranians to make their presence felt on the political arena and further reinforce the Islamic Republic by turning out in force in the elections. After casting his ballot, Principlist candidate Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also emphasized that popular vote is tantamount to law, adding that the candidate who emerges victorious should be respected by all.
Ali Akbar Velayati, another Principlist candidate, also urged Iranians to take part in the election fervidly, saying people\'s vote was the reaffirmation of the Islamic Republic. Independent candidate Mohsen Rezaei, for his part, urged a massive turnout in the elections. He called upon all Iranians to play an active role in determining their fate. Principlist candidate Saeed Jalili also called for a high voter turnout and stressed that all people should respect he who is elected.
Polls officially opened in Iran for presidential, and city and rural council elections at 8:00 am (0330 GMT) on Friday and are scheduled to remain open for ten hours. The time can be extended if necessary. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei cast his ballot minutes into the polls. Nearly 50.5 Iranians are eligible to vote in the June 14 election. More than 1.6 million of those eligible are first-time voters. The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. Over 200,000 candidates are also running for city and rural council elections.

Israeli warplanes have bombarded the Gaza Strip, killing at least two Palestinian and wounding several others.
Eyewitnesses say Israeli warplanes targeted the southern city of Khan Yunis. Two more strikes were reported in the east of the Gaza city and another in the center of the impoverished enclave. The attacks come shortly after a Palestinian sniper shot dead an Israeli along a border fence in the north of the coastal enclave. The incident seemed to be in retaliation for the recent killing of Palestinians in Gaza by Israeli forces. The Israeli military shot and wounded a Palestinian in northern Gaza on Monday. Another Palestinian was wounded by Israeli troops on Friday in southern Gaza, a day after a young Palestinian was killed and four others injured by Israeli fire.

Pakistan\'s interior minister says the government plans to put former military ruler Parviz Musharraf on trial for treason.
Musharraf would be the first military ruler tried for treason in a country that has experienced three military coups in its 66-year history. He could face the death penalty if convicted of treason for declaring a state of emergency while in power. Musharraf has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Musharraf was forced to step down in 2008 after ruling for about a decade and left the country shortly afterwards. He returned to Pakistan in March to run in the national elections in May, but was disqualified. Musharraf had been held under house arrest for months and was freed earlier this month after he received bail in four other cases, including the investigation of the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

In Cairo, clashes have broken out between supporters and opponents of ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi. The police have arrested about 50 people. Demonstrations were also held in a number of other Egyptian cities. Meanwhile, Morsi\'s trial has been adjourned until the 8th of January. Morsi was arrested and taken to an undisclosed location after being deposed by the army on July 3.

The shocking killing of Lee Rigby earlier this year by people believing themselves to be Muslims was predictably followed by weeks of media coverage.
Although such extremism is contradictory to Islam, Muslims felt it necessary to again denounce this extremism.
However, there was another victim of extremism shortly after, 82-year old Mohammed Saleem. He was stabbed three times until he died on his way home from prayers.
The extremist was Ukrainian student Pavlo Lapshyn, a man who also bombed several mosques in Britain.
British media has been comparably quiet. Was it because his beliefs were not expressed as Islamic?
This week\'s Islam and Life asks: Which victim of extremism will Britain remember: Lee Rigby or Mohammed Saleem?

In this edition of the show Susan interviews Terry Anderson, author of Bush's Wars.
Shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, President George W. Bush told advisor Karl Rove, "I am here for a reason, and this is how we're going to be judged." Anderson provides this judgment in this sweeping, authoritative account of Bush's War on Terror and his twin interventions.
He begins with historical surveys of Iraq and Afghanistan known respectively as "the improbable country" and "the graveyard of empires," and he examines U.S. policies toward those and other nations in the Middle East from the 1970s.
Then Anderson focuses on the Bush Administration, carrying us through such events as the terrorist's attacks of 9/11, the invasion of Afghanistan and the siege of Tora Bora, the "Axis of Evil" speech, the invasion of Iraq and capture of Baghdad, and the eruption of insurgency in Iraq.
Anderson describes the counter-insurgency strategy embodied by the "surge" in Iraq, and the simultaneous revival of the Taliban. He concludes with an assessment of the prosecution of the wars in the first years of Barack Obama's presidency.

israel has given final approval for the construction of 272 new homes in West Bank settlements, just hours after U-S Secretary of State John Kerry\\\'s departure.
Under the latest plans, 250 apartments were approved for Ofra and Karnei Shomron, in the heart of the West Bank, 53 of which have already been built without any permit. An Israeli Defense Ministry official said that the initial approval for new buildings was given several months ago and added that the latest announcement was just a formality. The Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now criticized Israel\\\'s latest move, saying Tel Aviv had the option of suspending settlement plans and giving the so-called peace talks a chance, but instead chose to push ahead with the expansion of settlements. The latest announcement came shortly after Kerry\\\'s departure. The U-S secretary of state had earlier urged Israel to refrain from taking any steps that would derail the negotiations. The international community considers settlements illegal, and the Palestinians have long viewed settlement construction as a key obstacle to reaching a peace agreement.
