[13 June 2012] Russia FM visits Iran - English
Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov in Tehran With less than a week to the scheduled comprehensive talks between Iran and the p5+1group, that includes also Russia, Russia's Foreign minister has made an official visit to Tehran to discuss issues ranging from bilateral ties to the Moscow talks and the developments in Syria.During his meeting with a number of Iranian officials including Secretary of Iran's Supreme National security council Saeed Jalili and his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi, in which both sides called for an increase in the volume of bilateral trade which currently stands at 3 billion dollars annually.
Right after the meeting the two ministers held a joint press conference, both sides said they hold similar views regarding the situation in Syria. Meanwhile Iran's foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi referring to the upcoming talks between Iran and the p5+1 group due in Moscow noted that the results of the negotiations would be fruitful if they're based on cooperation.
Lavrov for his part said that Moscow is to invite around 15 countries, including Iran, for an international meeting on Syria. He further noted that said the conference would call for the implementation of the plan by UN-Arab League joint envoy Kofi Annan. Kofi Annan's six-point peace plan for Syria launched in February 2012 is considered as the most serious international attempt to resolve the Syrian unrest. Lavrov's official visit to Tehran comes only days after the Presidents of Iran and Russia met on the sideline of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in China. The two presidents had agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in different fields

Iran to build system similar to S-300
Iran says the construction of a missile defense system similar to the sophisticated Russian S-300 anti-aircraft system is still on the country's agenda.
Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi told reporters on Wednesday that Iran still plans to construct the system.
His remarks come after Moscow decided to suspend a much-delayed deal to deliver the system to Iran.
"A decision has been taken not to supply the S-300 to Iran, they undoubtedly fall under sanctions," chief of the Russian General Staff, Gen. Nikolai Makarov said on Wednesday.
"The authorities decided to suspend the process of supplies," ITAR-TASS News Agency quoted Makarov as saying.
Under a contract signed in 2005, Russia was required to provide Iran with at least five S-300 air-defense systems. However, Moscow's continuous delays in delivering the defense system drew criticism from Tehran on several occasions.
Following the adoption of Resolution 1929 by UN Security Council (UNSC) against Iran, Russian authorities began making conflicting statements about how the new sanctions would affect the contract.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in June that Moscow would "freeze the delivery of the S-300 missiles" to Iran as it runs counter to the new round of UN Security Council sanctions on the country.
Putin's remarks came as Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had earlier said UN sanctions would not affect the S-300 contract with Iran, as these missiles are "defensive weapons" and do not fall under the terms of the sanctions.
Iran has been trying to obtain the sophisticated defense system to improve its deterrence power in reaction to Israeli war rhetoric.
Experts believe the S-300 missile defense system can shield Iranian nuclear sites from any Israeli airstrike.

Russia\'s space agency says it has launched the trio of European Space Agency satellites in a mission to study the Earth\'s magnetic field.
According to Ros-cosmos, the three Swarm satellites, blasted off into a near-polar orbit, from a launch-pad in north-west Russia. The satellites are controlled by the European Space Agency, the ESA. Over the next four years, they are expected to provide new details about the workings of Earth\'s magnetic field. The collected data will also help the ESA understand why the field appears to be weakening. The Earth\'s field works as a shield that protects the biosphere from charged particles and cosmic radiation.

NATO is holding one of its largest post-Cold War military drills near Russia\'s borders.
Poland and the Baltic states are hosting the war games launched on Saturday. Code-named \"Steadfast Jazz\", the exercises involve some SIX thousand troops from NATO as well as non-member states such as Finland, Sweden and Ukraine. Around half of them will participate in live exercise training, which will involve armor, aircraft and naval vehicles. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says the week-long war games are designed to prepare forces to defend any ally from an unidentified foreign invader. NATO\'s recent actions have raised tensions in the region. Russia has already expressed concerns over NATO\'s missile and radar deployments in Eastern Europe calling them threats to its security.

Russia has repeated its allegations that foreign-backed insurgents in Syria were behind the chemical weapons attacks in the country. Russia\'s UN ambassador says the US has provided no proof that the Syrian government was involved in the attacks.
Vitaly Churkin said that the claims that the Syrian government carried out the chemical weapons attacks are not persuasive. He added that Moscow views last August\'s deadly sarin gas attack outside Damascus as a provocation by the militants. The remarks came after a closed-door meeting on a UN investigation into the chemical weapons attacks in Syria. At the meeting, Russia and Western nations remained at loggerheads over who is to blame for the attacks. But UN experts recently said they have credible information that chemical weapons were used against the Syrian army and civilians. However, the U-N report has not determined whether the Syrian government or foreign-backed insurgents were responsible for the attacks.

Russia and China have skipped a UN Security Council meeting called to discuss a draft resolution that would impose more sanctions on Syria unless the government gives unrestricted access to deliver aid.
The resolution was drafted by Australia, Jordan, and Luxembourg. Russia\'s UN envoy, Vitaly Churkin, vowed to veto the proposed measure if necessary, saying that the resolution would increase tension in Syria and disrupt the current humanitarian efforts. The Russian ambassador added that the measure would endanger the Geneva-two negotiations being held in Switzerland.

With all the different current events going on in the world, we all really need a funny, relaxed, refreshing, and yet eye-opening commentary on it all.
Sayyid Shahryar\'s here to humbly shed a little insight into all that\'s going on around the world; past, present, and perhaps even future.
In this episode of \'Keepin\' It Real\', we\'re going to be talking about New Year\'s since we are on the cusp of a New Year, in our New Year\'s Special, so all together let\'s say \'Hello 2023, Good Riddance 2022!!\', as you watch our part 1 of 2 New Year\'s Special episode titled \'Hello 2023, Good Riddance 2022!!\'.
But on serious note, according to what calendar do some people of the world celebrate New Year\'s Day on the 1st of January?
And what are just some of the multiple other calendars that have been followed all across the world in the past and even in the present-day?
What does \'Jan dot one\' mean?
What is the \'Keepin\' It Real Calendar\', and what is based upon?
What is our most favorite and most accurate calendar?
And what are just some of the very many \'New Year\'s Days\' that are celebrated all across the world?
Do all the New Year\'s Days that are mentioned in this episode, occur on the same day or even in the same month, or for that matter, in the same epoch? (And yes, we know what epoch means)
And based upon all this incredible overdose of information, why in the world is the only popular and commonly known New Year\'s Day, the day celebrated by some people on the 1st of January; perhaps there\'s some cultural infiltration going on, huh?
And in what present-day calendar, does the at-hand New Year\'s Day move approximately 11 days prior to the previous New Year\'s Day; and what can this potentially mean?
According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar, what was year 2022, 2023, 2024, and for that matter, 2019, and 2020 named after?
What is the \'Keepin\' It Real Calendar\' episode update regarding Afghanistan, America\'s Withdrawal, Yemen, The Yemeni Resistance, the Russia Ukraine Conflict, and Bahrain?
Who in the world are the Saudi Americans, the Europ-icans, the Saudi Emirati-cans, and the Saudi America-natis?
What is eventually going to happen to the Saudi American coalition in Yemen, at the hands of the Yemeni Resistance?
What happened to the Europeans when they trusted the calculations of the Americans as regards to Russia and Ukraine?
Where does Europe get a large portion of its natural gas from; and approximately what percentage is it?
And with this ultra-secret information widely available, why in the world would the Europeans get into an armed conflict with no end in sight, with the nation that provides them that large portion of natural gas? (We can\'t seem to figure it out either)
Who is blackmailing the al-Khalifa regime in Bahrain; and how many dishdashas does the al-Khalifa have remaining?
What was the first and last episode of the \"Keepin\' It Real Calendar\', and on whose land are the Amerikanskis living on; and what might happen one day real soon to the sneaky squatters?
And there are a whole bunch of other questions and answers in this end-of-year episode of \'Keepin\' It Real\', so go ahead, watch, and enjoy, even though we know you love to read the descriptions.
And kindly please don\'t forget to watch our New Year\'s Special conclusionary episode titled \'Good Riddance 2022, Hello 2023!!\', which will hopefully be released before the end of 2022 Gregorian Calendar; and in which we\'re going to be doing some \'Nostradamus style\' post-telling 2022 Gregorian Calendar and fore-telling 2023 Gregorian Calendar.
Hey, we\'re just \"Keepin\' It Real\".

Representatives from the US, Russia, China, Syria and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons are to meet in Moscow to discuss ways of safely destroying Syria\\\'s chemical arms.
The meeting will be held behind closed doors. This, as a Russian official says Syria\\\'s chemical weapons will be taken out of the country through its maritime borders. The Arab country agreed to the destruction of its chemical arsenal after the August 21 deadly gas attack near Damascus. The Syrian government and Russia have repeatedly said that the attack was carried out by insurgents to provoke Western governments, particularly the U-S into a military intervention in Syria.

Ukraine\'s ousted president Victor Yanukovych has spoken, from Russia: Among the key points he made in his reaction to the events in his country: he said he still saw himself as the Ukrainian president and as such believed that Crimea must remain part of Ukraine, even though he would not run for the May presidential elections, blasting the West for allegedly betraying a Feb. 21 agreement between the government and the opposition. Meanwhile in Crimea, where the Russian navy fleet is located: it was voted that concurrent to the May presidential elections in Ukraine, Crimea would hold a referendum on its future status, whether it will remain part of Ukraine or will join Russia.
What would NATO\'s reaction be, who has warned it considered Ukraine\'s future to be \"key to Euro-Atlantic security\" and assured the new government in Kiev that the alliance would back its \"sovereignty.\"
