The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has opened its Conference of the States Parties in The Hague.
Top on the agenda is the organization\'s mission to get Syrian chemical stockpiles out of the country by the year-end for final destruction. Meanwhile, Iran\'s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham has said that Iran will actively participate in the conference. She added that as a victim of chemical weapons used by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, Iran will be influential in the decisions made by the O-P-C-W. Iran\'s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will also make a speech at the conference on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement. Press TV\'s Nargess Moballeghi who is currently at the venue of the conference, has sent us this update.

Iran has rejected a US proposal for it to play a role on the sidelines of the Geneva conference on Syria.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said Tehran will only accept proposals that respect its dignity. US Secretary of State John Kerry said earlier this week that Iran could help on the sidelines of the Geneva conference. His comments were a policy shift from the earlier stance of Washington, which is the only party opposed to Tehran\\\'s participation. Iran has expressed readiness to attend the event, but without preconditions.

Iran strongly condemns remarks by Bahraini foreign minister that Tehran is interfering in the Arab kingdom\'s internal affairs.
Iran\'s foreign ministry summoned the Bahraini charge d\'affaires in Tehran to protest the comments by Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said such remarks show the Manama officials\' confusion regarding the legal demands of the oppressed people of Bahrain. She also urged the small Persian Gulf state not to get support from foreign forces in suppressing anti-regime protests. Pro-democracy protesters have been holding rallies in Bahrain since 2011, calling for the Al Khalifa family to relinquish power. Scores of people have been killed and thousands arrested ever since.

A Hezbollah lawmaker says Israel and Saudi Arabia could be behind the terrorist attacks outside Iran\'s embassy in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
This, as Iran has also blamed Israel for the twin bombings in Beirut. Iran\'s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham described the terrorist attacks as an inhumane crime by the Israeli regime and its mercenaries. Meanwhile, the Secretary of Iran\'s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani has condemned the attacks, saying they show the frustration of Tel Aviv and its like-minded terrorist groups. The two blasts outside Iran\'s diplomatic mission in Beirut have left at least 23 people dead. Informed sources say six security guards of the embassy have also been killed. Over a hundred and 40 others were injured as well. Lebanese officials say Iran\'s cultural attaché Ibrahim Ansari has also been killed.
