در زمینه ی اعراض از امام حق ، در کافی شریف، کتاب الحجه، ابوابی با عناوین و مضامین شگفت انگیزی وجود دارد که به نمونه هایی از آنها اشاره می کنیم: مرحوم كليني رضوان الله تعالي عليه به سند خود از امام محمد بن علی الباقر عليه السلام نقل مي كند كه مي فرمودند: كُلُّ مَنْ دَانَ اللَّهَ بِعِبَادَةٍ يُجْهِدُ فِيهَا نَفْسَهُ وَ لَا إِمَامَ لَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ فَسَعْيُهُ غَيْرُ مَقْبُولٍ وَ هُوَ ضَالٌّ مُتَحَيِّرٌ وَ اللَّهُ شَانِئٌ لِأَعْمَالِه‏ (8) هرکس خدا را به عبادتی پرستش کند که در آن بسیار بکوشد و خود را به زحمت اندازد و امامی از طرف خدا برای او نباشد، کوشش او پذیرفته نیست و گمراه و سرگردان است و خدا از اعمال او متنفر است. مرحوم كليني رضوان الله تعالي عليه، در اصول كافي، به سند خود از امام صادق عليه السلام نقل مي كند كه فرمودند: مَنْ أَشْرَكَ مَعَ إِمَامٍ إِمَامَتُهُ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ مَنْ لَيْسَتْ إِمَامَتُهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ كَانَ مُشْرِكاً بِاللَّهِ (9) کسی که با امامی که امامت او از جانب خدا است کسی را شریک و هم پایه کند که امامت او از جانب خدا نیست، به طور قطع برای خدا شریک و انباز قائل است. زیرا تعیین امام حق خاص خداوند سبحان است و ایمان و عقیده به امام غیر منصوب از طرف خدا شرکت در کار مخصوص به خدا است. ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا يَنْظُرُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ لَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ مَنِ ادَّعَى إِمَامَةً مِنَ اللَّهِ لَيْسَتْ لَهُ وَ مَنْ جَحَدَ إِمَاماً مِنَ اللَّهِ وَ مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ لَهُمَا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ نَصِيباً (10) فردای قیامت پروردگار منان به سه گروه نظر رحمت نمی فرماید و گناه ایشان را نمی بخشد و عذاب دردناک از آن آنها است : کسی که بناحق و به دروغ، از جانب خدا، ادعای امامت کند و کسی که امام بر حق و تعیین شده از جانب خدا را انکار کند و کسی که گمان کند، این دو از اسلام بهره ای دارند و مسلمانند. امام صادق علیه السلام فرمودند: لا دين لمن دان الله بولاية إمام جائر ليس من الله‏ (11) هرکس به ولایت امام جائری که از جانب خدا تعیین نشده است به خیال خود برای خدا دین داری کند، اصلا دین ندارد.
